Not to miss experiences at DL/DCA?

While at WDW last year, we had some great "little known" experiences with the help of forum friends like ...

My DD(7) was the first little girl in Tink's Treasures when it opened so she was able to "wake up" Tink with a magic wand and watch her "fly" (sparkles) around the store. And, she received a Magical Moments certificate. So cool!

We looked for the key under the mat at Muppets, Found the talking water fountain, Saw the eyeballs open on HM gravestone, Convinced DH that the "Beverly" was Sprite LOL...BTW- I still am hearing about THAT one!

This year DH and I are going to DL/DCA - sans children YAY!

What should we NOT miss? Any little known, neat experiences that a person would not know to see/do? We may take DD in a few years so kid experiences welcome also!

Thanks!
~Zoey

Definately don't miss Soarin over CA in DCA! It is coming this spring to EC, but don't miss it here!

Yea, DONT miss Soarin! Thats like a MUSt do. I would also try to do the TOT, CA Screamin, Grizzly River Rapids, The Animation Studios, The Muppets, rides in Paradies Pier, and that sort of stuff. Have fun!

Re: Not to miss experiences at DL/DCA?

Sans kids I'd spend a lot of time in DCA and less time in DL - however, DCA closes early every night (usually 9 pm or earlier), and always much earlier than DL, so you can "hop" on over to DL for some late-night fun after DCA closes. Several nights a week they bring out swing dancers at the pavillion at the end of main street (to the left of the castle) - kids would probably be bored there (I know mine are) but dh and I just love it. We don't swing dance - we just watch. These are professional swing dancers and are just amazing! You can go on all the thrill rides - Matterhorn is one you don't have in WDW. In DCA you'll find California Screamin' (WOW can only describe it, & the only Disney coaster in CA with a loop!), the Maliboomer, and several more. You'll like the Paradise Pier area. In DTD you'll find the ESPN Zone, House of Blues, and more. In the Grand Californian, do not miss the Napa Rose. Yes, it's expensive, but it will be the most amazing food your tongue will have ever touched. It was recently voted the best new restaurant in Orange County by Zagat's - and that's out of thousands.

I am sooooo jealous of your trip!!

Re: Not to miss experiences at DL/DCA?

Don't miss the Maliboomer...hehe...I will always be partial to that attraction! If I was still working there, I'd probably see you.

But anywayz, in reality, I have to second (or third or fourth!) the "don't miss Soarin'!" It's definitely a don't-miss attraction. Don't miss Indiana Jones...that's an attraction you won't find in WDW, and is something you GOTTA do!

As for little-known experiences...gosh...um, okay, here's one: stand in the middle of the Sunshine Plaza in DCA. (That's the main area with the golden sun, straight ahead when you walk in.) Imagineers made it to feel like the beach, from the sand & broken glass embedded in the ground to the reflection of the actual sun off of the big metal sun...and the fountain sounds like ocean waves. Nobody really notices it until they actually take the time to close their eyes, listen and feel. I guess it's not all that special, but I found out about it during my CM training and thought it was really neat.

Paradise Pier is really romantic at night...try dinner at Ariel's Grotto around sunset, and ask for an outside seat. SOOO romantic! But bring a sweater, cuz the breeze off the water can get chilly.

Even if you're not staying there, go into the Grand Californian sometime in the evening and sit in the chairs by the fireplace. It is simply heavenly. (But be careful--DH and I fell asleep there one night by accident and woke up at 2 AM with security guards asking us to leave. OOPS! That was REALLY embarrassing.)

I can't think of much else at the moment. You will have such a wonderful time, though! I'm envious...

Re: Not to miss experiences at DL/DCA?

like dznygrl said, when you go into DCA make sure you take a good look around the sunshine Plaza, its very quiet amazing, I just love the wave fountain. Thats something that you might want to see and that is pretty cool.

Re: Not to miss experiences at DL/DCA?

Thanks for the great ideas! I can't wait to check out the sun!
I thought there was a Indiana Jones at WDW? We passed something like that hmm... I could have sworn it was Indiana... could have been the Disney fever I had.... *smirk*
We are looking forward to the trip also.... This will be the Honeymoon we never had! 5 years late but who's counting?

Is there an Adventurer's Club at Paradise Pier?

At Disney-MGM Studios, you probably saw the Indiana Jones stunt show. At Disneyland Park, however, there is actually a ride. It's waaay cool. That and the Matterhorn are the 2 things I really miss when I go to WDW, because they are only at DLP.

Soarin' Over California is awesome! It was my favorite experience at CA/DL. I am so looking forward to its opening at WDW.

anaheimboy, I meant DLP to stand for Disneyland Park. I didn't even think about it standing for Disneyland Paris!

I've heard it's about 50-60 ft tall.. Probably more towards 50. Just my guess though.
