Disneyland Talk-a-bout

K, this is a thread to share any fact, theory or something you've noticed at the Disneyland Resort. It can be anything from the date a ride opened, to the inner workings of how a haunted mansion effect works. Anything will do! It doesn't all have to be complete "facts".

I'll Start

Here's one.. When Disneyland opened it was so hot on that day, ladies high heal shoes sank into the streets of main street because of the heat, and because the asfault was so new.

Newspaper criticks thought Disneyland was a flop and would last less than 3 weeks, How wrong they were!!

There is only (in reality) 1 track on the indiana jones ride. It gives the illusion that there is 3 doors to choose from in the beggining. When you really go through the exact same room every singal time.

Now share something yall's have heard or noticed! Or anything!

The speed of the TOT is actually really un-known, or so I have been told. This is do to the different arrangements of ups and downs it goes, but I'll look into that to see if I could find out more about its speed of its drops.

Re: Disneyland Talk-a-bout

The Maliboomer's top speed during its ascent is approximately 45 miles per hour. But with the G-forces created in the climb, it feels closer to 60.

The water in Paradise Bay in DCA is so strongly colored with blue that the ducks who live there have permanently blue feet!

The Jungle Cruise is actually located directly behind the left side of Main Street. So when you're shopping in any of those left-side shops, the Jungle Cruise is on the other side of the wall.

In the Sunshine Plaza in DCA, there are computer-powered reflectors to make sure that real sunshine is always reflecting off of the golden metal sun.

One of the radio control towers in Condor Flats was actually used during a U.S. war.

The ice cream shop on Main Street pumps out the smell of ice cream & waffle cones through vents all day long, to attract hungry people.

The music played on Main Street plays 24 hours. It is never turned off.

This is a MYTH: however, it was told on my husband's orientation tour. A young boy diagnosed with cancer had one last wish, to tour the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. It is rumored that after he died, his ashes were spread in the Haunted Mansion and HM cast members claim his ghost now "haunts" the Mansion.

One of the people who "flies" as Tinkerbell during the fireworks show each night is actually a man. Another is a woman more than 50 years old.

True to the rumor, there IS a half-court basketball court inside the Matterhorn.

In Pinocchio's Village Haus, there is a back window (not visible to the public) where cast members come to eat. Cast members order the exact same food that is served to the public.

Directly below the Pinocchio ride in Fantasyland (specifically under the area where Monstro appears) is an area where Disney trains hat-writers to write peoples' names on Mickey ears. The trainees are subjected to listening to the sounds from the ride all day long!

The green plasticky-looking hills in Mickey's Toontown cost exactly one million dollars to create.

The DLR fireworks are shot off with air cannons, not with explosives.

Johnny Depp and Kobe Bryant are 2 of DLR's most regular celebrity clients. Johnny has been known to sit backstage & smoke with cast members.

More to come!

Are the drops just force of gravity (you can calculate) or are they powered?

They are powered...technically pulled, so the drops are faster than gravity. I've heard a figure of how fast they can go, but I don't remember.

I know! Disney loves to make everything as insane as possible...even gravity isn't good enough for a thrill!

Re: Disneyland Talk-a-bout

wow! that was a lot of facts!! Thanks for all of them, I love reading things like that.

I wasn't surprized about the smells pumped out on to mainstreet. They make sure every detail down to smell is present in their parks. (Disney that is)

You can actually see the jungle cruise trees dwarfing the main stree buildings..Over years the Trees on jungle cruise have grown and grown. They have planted a few green bush type plants to cover it up so guests couldn't see the 'jungle' that's 20 feet away from main street. But If you look closely you can still see the jungle trees.

Tower Of Terror goes underground on the first drop. It's true, they are not lieing.. you really do drop 13 floors in that ride, but not all of them are above ground

Durring the pitch black section of Splash mountain (where you go down and up really fast) Your log actually leaves the water and hooks into a rollercoaster type track. Then once you complete the 'rollercoaster' you come splashing back down into the water.

Walts and Roys initials are woven into the new orleans railing above pirates of the caribean.

It cost around 20 million dallers to install the tunnels and lights etc. for Fantasmic.

Space mountain cost around 20 million dallers also. When Space mountain was first built (in the 70's) the cost to build it cost more than it cost to build all of Disneyland. (at that time)

On TOT your not really looking at your reflection at the scene with the mirror. You are actually looking at a video of yourself. There is a hidden camera in one of the plants sitting on that floor(That's lined up with the elevator) and then the image is reversed and projected onto a screen. Giving it a 'mirror' effect. Thats how they make you turn blue and wavy, using a camera effect. So , no, sorry.. you are not actually entering the twilight zone at that moment.

You never move backwords on Indiana jones adventure... Though in a specific part it very much so feels like you are moving backwords. The imagineers are quite clever!
