Disneyland to podcast 50th anniversary celebration

Disneyland in California on Monday announced plans to podcast three days of festivities associated with its 50th anniversary celebration. Though the 50th anniversary is an 18-month affair, the podcasts will run May 3rd through May 5th, and will include celebrity interviews, music, historic anecdotes and live event coverage. Disneyland plans to produce the podcasts daily and will make them downloadable for free.

Podcasting makes audio files available for download through RSS newsfeeds; it’s a growing trend for Web sites, news resources and other online entities to make audio content available for download. Once downloaded, the audio files can be played back using iTunes or another digital music or audio player, or loaded onto an iPod (hence, “podcast”).

Oh wow... I thought podcast was a typo - that's a new term for me!

Dh will be there this week...but I won't. And we're going to Vegas this weekend - not to DL!! I think it will be way too crowded, and it's not like the festivities are going to end after this week, you know?

Really, how unlike Disney to actually do something trendy. I will then take my ipod with my to the press event, just to check it out. Hey, I will try to get interviewed! I have always wanted my voice on my ipod.

We have an ipod...I'll have to ask dh about this. (I've never used it!)

In this first podcast for the Happiest Homecoming On Earth celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland, we got some great interviews. We get an insightful walk down Main Street with Tim O'Day and we find out all about the hobby of pin trading. We are also fortunate enough to get an interview with Kelsey Grammer who is helping launch the 50th anniversary celebration. We get to sit down and have a great conversation with Jay Rasulo, President of Disney Parks and Resorts. We cap the evening off with the debut of Block Party Bash where Disney presents the Pixar film Pals and luckily, we have the good fortune to meet Coco, someone you'll definitely want to hear all about.

Started out with Walts grand opening speech.

I'm about half way thru and have to say the interview with the head of PR is full of all sorts of Disneyland history. So much I didn't even know I didn't know (lots of details filled in on stuff I did)

I don't have an iPod, but can these events get picked up on a regular computer Internet connection?

Kent, yes the podcast is just saved as an MP3 file, so any MP3 player should be able to play the podcast.

May 4th, 1995 - We had a great time exploring the Park today. Listen to find out about all the new attractions that were premiered. We get the chance to speak with guests, cast member and celebrities alike. We spent the day trying to find people's "Disneyland stories". In addition to covering some of the new attractions, we were on the Gold Carpet for the celebrity arrival and also do our best to convey with words the tremendous new Remember... Dreams Come True fireworks show. It was a great day, listen to check it out.

You can go to the DLR website and listen to them on your PC. I think the ipod option just means that you don't have to sit at your computer to listen. I listened to some of the first one yesterday, but it is pretty long and I didn't have time to finish it.

What is Podcasting?
Podcasting is the latest in on-the-go, on-demand technology. With podcasting, you can listen to radio programs or events whenever and wherever you choose. Podcasts are MP3 audio files that are automatically downloaded to your personal computer, and then transferred to an iPod or other MP3 player using a podcasting application.

What equipment do I need?
The basic requirements for podcasting are a computer (PC or Mac), podcasting software (see list of options) and an Internet connection. For portability, an iPod or other MP3 player is needed.

How do I get started?
Simply download and install podcasting software onto your computer. Although applications vary, each should provide instructions on how to add podcast feeds to your list.
