Thinking about DL in June. Some questions for ya!
Being on the east coast I am definately a WDW girl but IMO nothing matches the nostalgia of DL. Anyway, we are thinking about going in June, so here are some questions.
1) When exactly does the "celebration" end for the 50th? (I know when we had WDW's 25th that castle seemed to be pink for years, ugh!) 2) Which is generally the "cheapest" DL hotel per night? 3) What about these "good neighbor hotels" Are they good, some better than others? Is the price REALLY THAT much cheaper than the DL resorts? 4) this is a weird question perhaps but do they have Disney Vacation Club reps and presentations there too? if we decide to buy it might be on that trip. 5) CA people: What is transportation like from LAX to DL, and possibly even DL to Las Vegas? I know Las Vegas is like 6 hours right? Do they have any trains, buses, etc? Or is just renting a car the only logical way to do it? -ALSO, I remember last time we went to CA and rented a car they told us we weren't allowed to take it over state borders? Any rental car tips? My plan would be to fly into LAX, rent a car, go to DL for 3 nights, drive to Las Vegas, stay for 3 nights, then home from Las Vegas. Sound reasonable? Thanks for any input!!! Jessica

1. The 50th will be running through the end of next year (2006).
2. That would be Paradise Pier. If you are just staying 3 nights, I would suggest the Disneyland Hotel. The price won't be much different, and you will enjoy it better. 3. The good neighbor hotels vary in price and quality. Some are very good, some I would never stay in, but that is just me. I really like the Candy Cane Inn, and it is on the same block as DL, so it is a short walk. The other I like are a block away. There is a new Embassy Suites, Marriott Suites and Hyatt that are all great, but a bit of a walk. The price difference is usually around $100 per night at one of those three, and about $150 per night at the Candy Cane Inn. If it is your first trip, I would try to stay in one of the Disney resorts, you really will enjoy the trip much more. 4. Yes, they do. I remember one in Downtown Disney and another in each of the parks, but I will check for you next week when I am there. 5. I would suggest you rent a car. Every major car company has a rental desk within walking distance of DL. Usually the cars are very inexpensive, depending on when you go. You could rent a car and drive in 4 hours no problem (just don't do it on a Friday night). Any other way would double your time each way. 6. I rent cars in CA all the time. I know they always ask you if you are taking it to Mexico, but I have never heard about taking it to Las Vegas. California Screaming is still closed, and there has been no announcement as to when it will open back up. I am guessing it should open back up here sometime soon. I am sure they want to make sure the thing is safe before they open it back up.

I too would suggest you rent a car, esp if you need transportation to Vegas, because you'll want a car once you're there, too. I too have never been told not to take it over state lines - Vegas should be fine - over the border is something different. I'd rent it at the airport though so you don't have to worry about getting to Disney from there. I'd also see if you can fly into Orange County (the code is SNA) versus LAX - it's closer and easier.

This is a hotel list I stumbled upon, it's really very easy. http://www.hotels-rates.com/Anaheim/CA/usa/ There is also a closer airport than LAX, I chose LAX beause it has more options for flights, but the closer airport is orange county, by like a half hour. I'm going for a shuttle TO the airport then a private shuttle from LAX, because it seems to be that the shuttles in DL are as a slow as anything. Just search on google for shuttles and see of they do private cars. |

Compare rates with a purchase of a Annual Disneyland Pass. We bought the AP's and stayed in the GRand Californian for $149 a night! Well worth the investment of the ap's.
Good Luck and have fun, we'll be there in January for our annual Music Convention, and we always stay at DLR! Den
