Disneyland Space Mountain Refurbishment
Disneyland is shutting down Space Mountain this year for about a year and a half. It is suppose to be a total re-do. Word has it that they will be gutting the entire mountain and using the old Rocket Rods Queue area and track. From what I hear, the cars will be launched into the mountain from the Rocket Rods track.
I agree that a year and a half is a long time, but they are suppose to put in brand new track for a smoother coaster, all new sound system, new fiber optics, and possible a Lilo and Stitch theme. Lilo and Stitch doesn't sound very Space Mountain to me though. Space Mountain is due to re-open for the 50th anniversary as a bigger and better ride. We'll see. Has anyone heard more about this refurbishment or any other happening around Disneyland or DCA. I did hear that Disney is changing Superstar Limo to be a Monsters, Inc. ride that should open in October. We'll see on that one too. |

People have been doubting me when I brought this information out regarding the upgrades to Space Mountain and Tommorowland. I just read on Mouse Planet that the information I put up in the post looks to be true...And the submarines are coming back. Check this link and you'll see what I'm talking about.

The space mountian in Paris is very similar to what you describe. It is much more like Rock N Roller Coaster than the space mountain at WDW or DL. Bigger cars, instant acceleration but with a space theme. Rocket Rods is dead (too bad!), so this wouldn't surprise me.
I will see if I can find anything concrete on this.

From what I have heard, they are replacing the track in SPace Mountain but the replacement track will be in the same configuration as it is now. The present track is just worn out after all these years. There will be a new soundtrack and sounds also.
Space Mountain was due to be closed after the summer season, but is now closed due to ride problems. Instead of doing an expensive repair for just a few months, they have chosen to shut it down now and begin the redo of the attraction. |

:) The outside launch similar to Euro Disney has been in the rumor mill for about 8 months now on different sites and has never been confirmed. BUT....would dearly love to see it happen. The most concrete rumors I have heard are:
Entire queue area to be updated. New track similar to old track. New sound system. New special effects while riding. There is also a "rumor" roaming about that the Submarines will be up and running for the 50th Anniverary. Either way Disneyland and I will turn 50 only a few days apart and I will be there come rain or shine. ![]()

That is all BS all they are doing to space moUntian is replacing the track it will be in the same layout and there will be no launch. The track was rough so they are replacing it with new track. They are also adding a new soundtrack and new trains (they sold the old ones one of them on e-bay) and it will no have a lilo and stich theme. EVER

Re: Disneyland Space Mountain Refurbishment
Too bad. The SM at Disneyland Paris is phenom.
Lots of refurbishment going on at DL, both rides and infrastructure. When we were last there a month or so ago, all of City Hall was being refurbished, as was the Crystal Palace (which in CA is the Annual Passholder offices rather than the fun Character Dining in FLA). Cast members aren't always particularly well informed about what changes are set to happen before the anniversary, but it's fun to ask.

Howdy,
I don't know the particulars of Space Mountain other than it is totall being redone for the 50th. In addition there is a project next to the Pins Trading in Tomorrowland. All of Main Street is getting repainted. The City Hall section, the theater and a couple of shops to the West of Emporium are now done and look GREAT. They are working on the Passport center now and the rest of Main Street will be following one step at a time. There is plans to spruce-up most of the park with key attractions in most lands being done. That's all I know. I will try to find out more next time I go (in mid-May) Darrin |

Re: Disneyland Space Mountain Refurbishment
yes that is all correct....they are also going to be doing a rehab to the rivers of america, the matterhorn, splash, the HM, and other rides, they will also be doing more face work (painting, replanting, replacing things) to all of the lands from what i have heard, this also goes for DTD and DCA. but like I said this is just what I have heard, it could be wrong, it could be right, i guess we will just have to wait and see what happens :-) :-) ;-) ;-)

Space Mountain in Paris is about as good as Rock Roller Coaster plus Space Mountain at WDW added together. It is an awesome ride. I was really disappointed with SM at WDW. It's like a kiddy ride in comparison. I didn't realise how spoiled we'd been with SM at DLRP. I don't know about the California ride as I've never been there. But if it's like WDW and they re-open it like DLRP, believe me it will be well worth the wait. Then all you have to hope is that they do the same with HM and POTC. For my part I hope they open a ToT in Paris, but I doubt that will ever happen. |
