OH-KAY, SO, I was reading an article about some DLR news - this happened to be regarding DCA's future as a theme park and what should be done to fix it. WELL the guy who does support DCA is all for fixing the park with the big budget. The other guy (Lessler or something like that I think his name is) who doesnt support DCA has different propsed plans and their STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant believe this, I almost had a caniption-fit when I read it (or I think I did, lol) But anyways, he proposed to completely tear down DCA as a theme park and no long have it as a theme park (tear down the berm gates and turnstiles). He wants to expand DTD into what is now DCA and have new retail, new Disney Vacation Club units installed in the new DTD area, build a new hotel that would be mixed in with this new "DTD" and have the few reamining rides that wouldnt get torn down (TOT, Soarin, Monsters Inc) as seperatley admission rides (like DL used to be back in the 50's) just how a carnival would operate! ARG!!

OMG how STUPID and CRRRAZZZY is that?? I dont see how hard it is to simply fund the park to re-theme it and give it the proper treatment like everyother Disney park has gotten, you know?
And even with out the funding I think its a rather fabulous park just how it is!

Honestly, give me a break - tear down DCA? you've got to be kidding me.......honestly....

DCA has improved a lot in the past five years.

If you had asked me in 2001, I would have been all for it.

Now, the park has improved significantly.

There are spots that need to be improved, but it's worth the time now.

Hopefully cooler heads will prevail.

I've never been to DCA ~ but tear it down?? And add more retail?? That doesn't seem like a good plan for the future of Disneyland.

With the amount of money it would take to tear down DCA and build DVC/DTD they could buy 1) out a few of the hotels in the area 2) add a few new rides to DCA 3) buy Universal from NBC or 4) build the fabled Disney Dallas

Sometimes you have to look at all the dumb, crazy, stupid, idiotic ideas to figure out why the good ideas are good and the great ideas are great (sometime those dumb, crazy, stupid, idiotic ideas have a little gem in them that turn and good idea to a great idea).

yea I know they are, and Im most sure the idea wont even make it to design Imagineering, but I thought it might be interesting to share the little piece of news with ya'll.

I've been to WDW more than 40 times for a vacation and finally went to DL this past September for the first time. Now I expected that I would be disapointed because WDW is so large and DL is so small. But "I LOVED IT", I had such a great time at DL I can't wait to go back! I hope all they ever do to DCA is improve it. I love it just the way it is.

SOOOO stoooopid!! I agree! I may be in the minority, but I DCA! I would hate to see it gone.

They need to give it some attention, like the WDW parks and DCA would be just as great! I think it would be terrible for DL to lose it because people like me will not go there and will opt for WDW instead! Right now having the 2 parks is a bigger draw for me!

Hopefully, someone will think this thru first!! REMEMBER>>> EPCOT was not a huge hit for the first years either and now it is fantastic!!

Maybe they could take the money they would spend on taking DCA down and build DVC/DTD to buy a DeLorean time machine (I guess it would be a little more expensive then I thought seeing they would have to buy Universal...maybe they could rent it) to send someone back in time and tell Walt to buy more orange groves...a lot more...maybe send back gold deblumes so they he could buy up land early in FLA.

Well, for me the real solution would be to combine the two parks into a HUGE, incredibly great park... maybe make it another "land" from the main Disneyland, but still incredible... add some cool coasters and kids rides, dark attractions, educational experiences, great theming, and all that kind of stuff... don't forget to add some MGM Studios-type attractions, and all the things we love about WDW. It could be a HUGE draw if it were a bigger park, especially if it is carried out with care and magic...

What's so surprising about some guy wanting to build a mall in Southern California I'm only kidding (well, sort of, lol).

I think the idea to tear it down is absurd, but maybe that's his answer to, "How can we have DCA turn a larger profit?" Tearing it down and building retail certainly would bring in money--but it's not pratical and is it what I want to see happen. And if DCA were gone, would you want to buy into a DVC resort that was in the middle of a huge outdoor mall??

DCA needs better family attractions. Think Fantasyland and Adventureland kind of attractions--well themed and magical. The Bug's Land area is 'okay', but it could be whole lot better. There could also be a restaurant built there just for character meals (a place for MICKEY!) along the lines of the Crystal Place at MK. That along with better family rides would bring attendance and revenue up.

Paradise Pier needs a big overhaul too, IMO. The idea to recreate a California beach amusement area was a sentimental idea, but there really isn't anything super magical about the Californa boradwalks in the first place. I mean, Walt created DL because of his desire to offer his family (and other famlies) better alternatives to things like carnivals and boardwalks. They should do away with most of the attractions there and start over. I'd rather see one big ride in place of the jumpin' jelly fish, MM and the zypher ride. All 3 of those are fine, but nothing really magical, nothing really Disney.

And I almost think the name needs to be changed The "California" in it is pretty restrictive. There could be a wild coaster there named "Gold Rush", a fantasyland type ride where one rides in a cable car, a boat type ride where you're lost in Yosemite, etc, but really it's a small box to pull ideas from.
