What's so bad about DCA?

I've been looking around the Disneyland threads and see a lot of negative type comments about DCA.

My DDB (Designated Disney Buddy) go on a big Disney trip every other year. She gets one year and Omar gets the next. It's an awesome thing when your friends don't live near you anymore.

Anyway the next big Disney trip is going to be California. So with that being said, what's so bad about DCA? Why does it need to be updated?

I actually like DCA, some of the rides there are fantastic. I have to say though that some of the rides are nothing more than county fair rides with a Disney gloss over. I think in time, as those rides are replaced, it will be a great park.

Re: What's so bad about DCA?

I agree with Mickey; I too like DCA, however, a lot of their rides are your typical carnival rides with a Disney touch, nothing that will be immortalized as in DLP (except for ToT, Soarin', and maybe Grizzly River Run). I think with some revamps, it could actually be a very competitve park in the locale.

Well it sure isnt' the cream puffs at the Boudin Bakery! Or their broccoli and cheese soup! mmm mm good! All kidding aside. I really enjoy this DCA's slower pace..it's a bit more laid back than Disneyland's MK. Don't miss seeing Aladdin!

Re: What's so bad about DCA?

We enjoyed DCA. We're not big thrill riders, and due to motion sickness don't do spinny things, but we enjoyed the shows and the laid-back atmosphere. DS is 3, so he enjoyed Playhouse Disney, even though he had seen the same show at WDW. I don't really see what's bad about it!

Re: What's so bad about DCA?

I really like DCA as well. Like Peppertink said, it has a much more laid back pace, you feel like you can really take your time.

I think it has some great rides like Grizzly River Run, California Screamin' and of course Soarin', but it could really use some more quality rides.

I think a lot of people dislike it because it doesn't have that classic Disney feel. Part of the problem is it is right across the street from a lot of the hotels and the convention center, so seeing those from the park kind of spoils the magic. I still love visiting there though!

Re: What's so bad about DCA?

I think the general complaint is that DCA seems similar to typical amusement parks...especially in the Paradise Pier area, there is nothing all that "unique" about the attractions.

Lots of people also complain that Disney didn't put a lot of time or thought into the theming of the park. However, I thoroughly disagree. After having been given a tour as a CM, and had little details pointed out to me, it is amazing how much thought and work actually went into that park!

I personally love DCA; I think it has a different pace and atmosphere than any other Disney park, and if you ever get the chance to be there at night, it is simply beautiful!

Re: What's so bad about DCA?

Thanks for all the input everyone.

Hopefully the rumors aren't true that they will tear it down, maybe just make the improvements that it appears as though are well needed.

I can't wait to get there in 2008.

Re: What's so bad about DCA?

In 2001 I didn't like it at all...

Wasn't the same.

No magic or history...

But it grows on ya..

I really liked who wants to be a millionaire, and my heir apparent and I got on the top 10 list a few times..

It's just not the same as Disneyland, and it's a bit unfair to expect it to be the same as a fifty year old park that started it all..

But it's worth the visit, especially for folks who have never been to California...

Re: What's so bad about DCA?

DCA doesn't even come close to WDW or DLR. Let's just say, the Disney magic just isn't there. Some of the rides there are awesome and are must-sees, but as Mickey said, they're "carnival" type rides. DCA is a great park to walk around for a few hours, but not for the whole day. If you want to go, I'd say go, just plan something else to do for the afternoon.

Re: What's so bad about DCA?

I am so glad you asked this!
I have noticed a lot of "DCA" hostility, I can't wait to check out DCA for myself though..it seems like nothing I have ever been to before.

Snow...you are right...it isn't like the Magic Kingdom in Disneyland..or the Magic Kingdom at WDW...and...it's not supposed to be. At first I found myself comparing it to the Magic Kingdom, until I remembered that they weren't going for another MK.

626...you are right too..it does grow on ya. After a couple of bumps and stumbles they seem to be on the way to making DCA better and better.

Oh and..did I mention the cream puffs?
