What will she learn if there are no consequences?

Your child is caught stealing a candy bar at a store. You scold the child: "It is wrong to take this candy without paying for it. What you did was a very bad thing! Don't ever do it again!" Then you turn around & give the child the very same candy bar that he/she had stolen.

What lesson would he/she have learned? That if I take something that doesn't belong to me, my parent will give me a tongue lashing AND the very thing that I wanted to begin with. WOW! What a bargain. (the child will have learned nothing)
My reply post was NOT concerning the 15 year old girl who borrowed an AP card. She was punished enough as WishUponAStar said.

I was referring to the post by Erin, in which she hoped the "one chick gets her pass back". Why should this young lady get off scot free? She broke DL's rules, too, by giving her young friend her own AP card. That is a no-no. If she does get off scot free, she may very well do it again. Perhaps, all she needs is stern warning.

I do not believe, however, that Disney would condone the offering of commentary by their CM's on an individual's personal character, CM's whom they train in a customer service standard that is a model for many other corporations throughout the world. The CM should have acted according to the direction set forth by Disney and kept their mouth shut.

The idea that this 15 year old did this because "kids today" are coddled, etc. is ridiculous. IMHO I am sure this happens at Disney parks everyday by visitors of all ages. Some get caught. Some don't.

I wonder how many 6 foot tall, 220 pound, 40 year old, males get called "bad people" in these situations?
I would do and say that same to the 6ft man that I would to the 15 year old girl and have.

Yes, kids are totally 100% coddled today and taught that everything is everyone's fault. We are more concerned with the mental damage that being called a "bad person" does than what the kid did..

Like everything else in life, you can't paint every kid with the same brush. There are coddled brats, there are 15 year olds that are good kids and make mistakes, there are 15 year olds that are con artists. The point is - we really don't know which, if any, this girl is and it's rather harsh to paint her as a hardened criminal over this incident.

Re: My intern's sister just got ejected from Disneyland....

I think there are a lot of presumptions, what-if's, perhaps, and alot of assuming flyin' around. Everyone would handle the situation differently if it was their child or family member, and it's not any of our children.

Just want to make sure everyone stays as cool as cucumbers here, I'd hate for this to turn into an arguement about how someone should or should not disipline a virtually annonymous teenager.

I don't think anyone is painting her as a harden criminal or wants her to be banned from Disney forever. I just don't think she needs to be pitied.

According to the first post, a friend lent the 15 yr old her own AP card. She, knowingly, took it & tried to use it. When caught, she admitted that it was not her AP card. She got caught breaking Disney's rules. The 15 year old SAID that the CM called her a bad person. (which I find hard to believe)

Some on here are feeling sorry for her. Poor dear didn't get to do DL. She could have. All she or her sister would have to do is buy a one day pass. She opted to, knowingly, break the rules. You break the rules, get caught & you get embarrassed. If that was the worst thing that happened to her, I find it hard to feel sorry for her.

I honestly didn't really translate anyone's posts here as pitying or feeling sorry for her (maybe I missed a post?). She did something against Disney rules, Disney caught her, Disney took the action they saw fit against the crime, and I am sure her parents handled it in whatever way they saw fit as parents.

That's the end of the story. Well, at least for me.

It's certainly your right to feel anyway you choose. I choose to regard this matter differently.

None of us will always agree on everything. But, the great thing is that we can agree to disagree in a nice way without losing our tempers. This is such a great board with a bunch of good people!

Agreed. Hopefully we can just leave it at that & let Mickey Mouse take care of those rule breakers in all his parks.

Any updates 626? Did you ever hear anymore about the story?

... Thank you everyone for staying 'cool as cucumbers' I was getting a little nervous arguing would force me to close the thread. I am glad we can have a convo of varying opinion and not get upset.... Thanks.

My DH is a former teacher and he has horror stories of how kids and their parents act in this day and age. He'd call parents to discuss the ill behavior of their children, only to be told that they don't call him when their kids act out at home.

But, I would certainly not say that this is true of all children, and that all children are coddled. My DH has also told me of stories of children who ate only when they were at school and given a free lunch because their parents didn't feel the need to feed them at home, parents who came in to schools so high on drugs violently demanding to see their children that the police had to be called.

I know these are extreme examples, but I think stating that kids are totally 100% coddled is also a bit extreme. Do I think that many kids have too much with Nintendo Wii's, cell phones, designer fashions, etc.? Yes! Do I think that our society has become too "ME" oriented? Yes! But, we can agree to disagree that all children are 100% coddled.

Do I think this 15 year old girl was wrong? Yes. Do I think the CM was wrong for calling her a "bad person" (if indeed she did)? Yes...because she represents Disney and I don't believe Disney would have condoned it.

I do believe you when you say that you would have said the exact same thing to any other person. But I have often seen people (in the retail field) act one way when they feel unthreatened by someone like a teenager or a woman and hold their tongue when it comes to someone who may not bear the remark as timidly. I am only offering one more view on the case.

Re: My intern's sister just got ejected from Disneyland....

OK, I'm sorry, I tried to divert the conversation back on topic but I think it's just going way off in the wrong direction. I am just going to close it before the original topic is completely lost.

I haven't seen 626 come back with any updates so we'll just leave it at that.

Thank you

I don't the girl so I don't know the consequences she personally faced, but assuming she a decent girl who just wanted to get her sister or friend in for free and thought she could beat the system (I'm not saying this is ok - it's NOT ok - we all agree on that, right?), I'm saying let's assume she has a pretty decent moral code and made a bad decision. She's possibly humiliated, etc. She's also out a little bit of money for sharing her pass. Because of that, I hope she gets it back. I bet she'll never do it again and maybe she'll even spread the word that it doesn't work.

Of course, we can't really know, because we don't know those involved.

As far as your candy bar scenario, it really doesn't fit. The girl I was speaking of was the one who lent the pass, not borrowed it. I don't think the girl who tried to get in on the borrowed pass should get in for free. I just think the original pass holder should be reunited with her pass.

It's also not up to me to figure out what consequences these children suffer.

I'm also not trying to win anyone's vote for who's right. I was just stating my opinion.
