Disney Tokyo

This is a strange question, but I'll ask it anyway.
Has anyone here been to Disney Tokyo?

I was thinking maybe going there in 10 years or so.

We plan to go to WDW every year until my son gets in high school. I was thinking maybe going to Disney Tokyo for my son's high school graduation present. My son is very interested in Japanese culture.

BTW....My kids loved Spirited Away. We saw it the theater last weekend.

I know...I know....I like to plan everything 10 to 20 years in advance.

I actually have been to Tokyo Disneyland. I went two different times way back in 1983. Man, that's 20 years ago. I wonder if it is still the same. What I remember of it was that is basically is the same thing as Magic Kingdom at WDW. Although the narrator in the Haunted Mansion was speaking japanese. But the songs on any ride were the same songs sung in english. The layout is basically the same as MK, maybe slightly different but pretty close. At least if you go to Japan to visit Tokyo Disneyland, you should try to also visit Disney Sea which is still a fairly new Disney park. Someday I would love to go back there and revisit Tokyo Disneyland and then also visit Disney Sea. I used to live in Japan and they opened the Disneyland park there my last year there.

Re: Disney Tokyo

Although I haven't been there, I have friends that have been there so I know quite a bit about it.

Tokyo Disneyland and Disneysea are owned and run by the Oriental Land Company. Thats right, they were not built by the Walt Disney Corporation! The OLC pays to use the Disney name and characters.

Because Tokyo Disneyland is run by the OLC and therefore has no affiliation with WDE, it is immune to the budget cuts that are occuring at the other Disney parks (especially Hong Kong Disneyland, slated to open next year). While WDE parks are cutting back, the OLC doesn't. Attractions at the two parks are often much better than at the other Disney parks. Their version of Winnie the Pooh recieved 40 million dollars more than the Disneyland version. Their Tower of Terror currently being built at Disneysea is getting 100 million more dollars than the California version!

Also, Tokyo Disneysea is an incredible park. When California recieved California Adventure (A good, but mediocre Disney park), Tokyo disneyland recieved Disneysea, a park that cost over 3 billion dollars to build. If you get a chance, head over to laughingplace.com and look at pictures. Its unbelievable.

Other than the bigger budget, Tokyo Disneyland is different in how it is bigger and more open. Because of the parks proximity to Tokyo (a cramped city), the designers wanted to create a feeling of space so it is evident in the park. Their Main Street USA is covered with a glass ceiling so that it can be open all year round.

I hope that helps! I'm not too knowledgeble about hotels there. The only one I know of is the one at the entrance to Disneysea. I can't remember the name.
