Renting points?
We are planning another trip in October 2005 with my parents, grandmother, brother and his girlfriend. We are minimum DVCers with 150 points per year. We are discussing renting points and staying in a 2 BR plus an additional studio at OKW. I haven't a clue about when I should start looking to rent points. I know you have posted a website before to link to regarding renting points. I also remember something about setting up an Escrow account and releasing the money after the points are used. Can someone please give me an overview or point me in the right direction? I know we have plenty of time and don't have to book until April of next year, but I figure this could be a complicated process and take a lot of research.
I appreciate your help. Lisa

Re: Renting points?
Jessie, if you don't need the kitchen facilities, it is cheaper to rent 3 studios than a 2 bedroom and a studio. Just wanted to let you know.
Sorry I can't help you on the rental of points, but I'm sure Mickey and some others will be here soon to give you the requested info.

Re: Renting points?
You'll see points offered mainly about $10-12.
This is a good deal if you don't own compared to paying WDW rack rates but as a DVC member you know that the annual fee is actually around $4 per point. True the REAL cost is 1/50th of your membership purchase price plus the annual cost, but that's WAY below $10-12. For example, point priced at $95 is about $2 per year, plus your annual fee of $4. Other thing to watch is when points can be used. They are life limited and you can find that you only have a few months to use them in.

Re: Renting points?
I have rented out points several times now so I understand the transaction from the renter's point of view pretty well. I think what you really want to do is this:
1st - Check availability for when you want to go. Otherwise the points won't help you. 2nd - Calculate how many points you need. 3rd - Post on Disboards (link above) that you want a transfer of 2005 points that expire after October 2005. 4th - Daily check the board looking for other postings of people trying to sell points that you could use. Sometimes they go pretty fast so do this a few times a day. 5th - Buy your points. They will be transferred to your account for use by you. This way you control all the reservation process. Everyone has different terms for a transfer buy what I have found to be the best is to use Paypal. I have the person put 1/2 the money in my account, then I transfer all the points (this can't be reversed), then I have them place the rest of the money in my account. There is a bit of trust involved but you get a feeling really quick of whom you want to deal wiuth and whom you do not want to. I'll be you can get points for October for between $9 and $10 per point because people don't want there points to expire. Good luck. PM me with any other specific questions. ![]()
