Outside of Disney

I am a new DVC member and plan to visit Disney often but I was wondering how easy it is to trade points outside of Disney. My family and I like to visit Sanibel Island, FL and hope that it won't be too hard. If any one has some experience with this please share your story or advice.
Thank you

Re: Outside of Disney

Congrats on your DVC purchase!!! We've used our points in the Congierge Collection to go to Keystone Colorado. It was very easy. I just called DVC, paid the booking fee, and viola!....7 nights in a wonderful 2 bedroom condo in the middle of the beautiful Colorado mountains....all for for 147 points!!

As far as Interval International, I haven't used my points with them, but I have talked to people that have said it's just as easy. Here's what it says on the DVC website about Interval International: "Reserved Disney Vacation Club Resort accommodations can be exchanged for Interval International accommodations. Exchange weeks become available when owners at a resort in the Interval International program give up their week for exchange. When you contact Member Services, a search will be conducted for an instant match. If an instant match is found, your Vacation Advisor will confirm your exchange. If an instant match is not found, you may request to have the system continue to search until a suitable match is found. Your Vacation Advisor will contact you when a match has been found, and you will have two business days to return the phone call or your search will be cancelled"

Low Season, 1 week:
1 bedroom: 124
2 bedroom: 207

Mid Season, 1 week:
1 bedroom: 144
2 bedroom: 252

High Season, 1 week:
1 bedroom: 160
2 bedroom: 270

Re: Outside of Disney

Thank you Thank you Thank you
That was the answer I was looking for. When I spoke with Member Services I didn't understand how they were explaining it. After reading that I GET IT NOW! I guess it was the fact that someone has to give up a week. I makes sense to me now. We are going through another company that does timeshares by the week. Now it all makes sense that Sanibel...being a popular destination it would be harder to book. I will have to have a search done ASAP for Sanibel. Just wish me luck it sounds like it might be difficult. For now I am just looking forward to our October SSR visit.
Thanks again.

Re: Outside of Disney

You shouldn't have to do any leg work on your end. Just let DVC know when you want to go to Sanibel and they'll do all the work for you!

Have fun at SSR...we will be there for the first time in May! I can't wait to see it!
