Icon10 Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort

Hey Disney Vacation Club members, I just got back from Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. The DVC property in South Carolina.

All I can say is: AWESOME!!!!

We joined DVC in March 2002. Since that time we have stayed twice at Beach Club Villas, which is our home resort. We have also stayed at Old Key West & Disney's Saratoga Springs.

We have loved all of them and Disney's Hilton Head was absolutely spectacular. It was a very relaxing vacation. We had a great view of the marsh, where we could sit and watch egrets, rabbits, woodpeckers, pelicans and one morning we even spotted a bald eagle! One day we did a dolphin tour through Disney and the kids were thrilled to see dolphins swimming around our boat. Disney's beach house at Hilton Head is right on the ocean and the kids had a great time swimming in the Atlantic.

If you are a DVC member, take a look at this great resort. It was so nice, I had a lot of trouble getting my family to come back to Illinois.

Re: Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort

I agree. We were there for a week this Spring Break, our second trip there. We just loved it. The nice thing about late February is that the resort is deserted. We had the pool to ourselves most days, and any kids activities were really our kids activities. If we didn't show up, they didn't have them. Really a great, relaxing vacation. Totally fun place to stay with and without kids.

If you go, ask me for some restaurant suggestions, I have a couple of good ones.

Truffles is out of this world, just fantastic. We went the the Sea Pines one twice, totally worth the $5 extra bucks to get in. I also like the Wild Wing Cafe, on Tuesday night when they have 2 for 1 wings. Great wings, loud and crowded. Perfect when you have kids. Giuseppi's Pizza is also great, just fantastic. It is small, but worth it. It is only about 2 minutes from the Disney resorts, and they do deliver. The Calzones were fantastic, best I have ever had. Those were my three favorite places. I have been disappointed with the fish places we have been there, expensive and not very good.

I used to work at Giuseppi's at Shelter Cove in high school....my favorite restaurant...next time you go...try the turkey wedgies with ranch dressing...it may sound funny...but they are the BEST creation under the sun!!!
The best fish place is probaly the Crazy Crab (not the one in Sea Pines) the 'orginal' is on 278 just over the bridge...it's delicious...also Hudson's Seafood is down that way and also very good. They're both 'local' secrets. Also The Old Oyster Factory is good too....but not as good as the other two...

Re: Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort

Ah, my wife had one of the Wedgies, she wouldn't even let me have a bite. I was content with my Calzone so I didn't push it. Funny you used to work there. Probably a reall good job in high school.

We did the Crazy Crab in Sea Pines. Our waiter was a hoot, the food was on the poor side. I will have to try the other one instead. We were headed to the Oyster Factory on night, but go sidetracked and went elsewhere instead.

Smart woman..first time I took DBF there he ordered a turkey sandwhich and I had my wedgie, he tried to have some..no way..not happening...I worked as a 'counter girl' in high school because I was too young to serve beer..it was great.
Def. try the Crazy Crab on the North End..also give Hudson's a go...both yummy and not at all touristy (which somehow makes the food better!) The owners of the CC's put more stock in the North End location since lots of locals eat there..as apposed to the Sea Pines one which millions of tourist eat at regardless..The Kingfisher which is close too Disney HH is also very good..also a run down little shack looking place called "ABE'S" on 278 a little bit before Shelter Cove is soooo good...it's not your top flight hilton head dining experience...but the food is..yum...
I am going to stop thread jacking now.............!

Re: Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort

We did breakfast and lunch every day in our villa. But we ate out everynight for dinner. Here is a brief run down on the Hilton Head Restaurants that we visited:

~Old Oyster Factory. Very crowded, but decent food and a lot of it. Nice water views. Disney Vacation Club members get a 10% discount on their food bill when they show their DVC member card.

~Quarterdeck. This is in Sea Pines and is located right at the lighthouse. Probably the best food we had all week! Great views of the water & harbor. This restaurant is about to be bought out by Sea Pines which will then run the establishment. I am not sure if the menu will change.

~CQ's. This is also in Sea Pines. Wonderful food. Terrible prices. I have a family of 5 and two of my little ones were ordering kid meals and the bill was still over $200. Be careful. They build the tip into your bill and don't tell you. If you are not watching you end up double tipping.

~Iron Wolf. Fantastic food & fast service. Go before 6pm and the early bird specials give you the same amount of food for about half the price.

~Edmond's Family Shrimp Boil. This is a Disney dinner done at the Beach House. Poorly done, food was so-so. Outdoors, so you share the meal with bugs. My wife ordered a glass of wine. The plastic cup was a little bigger than a shot glass and they charged her $3.75. They actually ran out of food! Go figure.

I can not remember the last restaurant. But anyway, if you like to eat, Hilton Head is the place to go. Good thing I was already fat when I got there!

Mickey, when we got to Hilton Head it was empty and we even got to pick our view. But, by the time we were checking out, it was Memorial Day weekend and the resort was jam packed.

Well, it depends on your luck. The entire week we were there it was rainy and never got about about 65. Well, some days it didn't rain, but was still cool. They were telling us the week before was 75 and clear every day. We still had a blast, we just didn't get to lay out on the beach.

If I remember correctly, from I-95, it is about 10 - 15 minutes to the bridge to the island, depending on traffic. Once you get over the bridge, it just depends on where you want to go. The Disney resorts there is about another 8 minutes from the bridge. From Orlando, it is just over 300 miles, about a 5 hour drive.

A lot of DVC members who live in the NE will spend a night there on their way home from WDW.

Re: Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort

When you are on I-95, you get off at exit # 8. If you fly into the Savanah, Georgia airport it is very easy to get on 95. We had no problems getting there.
