Buying Points

We recently sold our summer cottage and are thinking about buying some more DVC points. I know that there have been lots of threads about the best place to buy - but I haven't really read them, thinking that I'd never be in the position to buy more. But - YAY - maybe we can. So - I'd like opinions please. Where's the best, reliable, economical place to buy?

One of the good and bad things about DVC is that Disney has a first right of refusal on resales. Keeps prices higher but also eliminates bargins.

The Timeshare Store is also very reputable.

I would definitely check out directly from DVC. When we did earlier this year, they were running a special that made the price very close to any resale after all costs were calculated. And if you buy at SSR you get until 2054 instead of 2042.

I agree with Skwak. I check into buying DVC points and it worked out better for us directly from WDW DVC.

Thanks for all your help, guys. We've been checking things out and have a call into the DVC to talk to a rep. We're kind of torn between buying more points, or renting for a while. Our DVC loan is paid off this month, with only our annual fees to pay. If we buy more points, the annual fees increase - is that right? Has anyone rented points - did it work out? Decisions, decisions!

Yes, your annuals fees increase if you buy more points. Approximately $4 per point annually.

I have not rented points but I have rented to others. There is a degree of trust involved so it is important that you find someone that you feel comfortable with. Disboards actually has a very active forum on this.

Talk about stress! But we've done it - after exploring all the options, comparing sales vs. rent, checking out all the sites, we've committed to purchasing 100 more points at Vero Beach (which is our home resort). I'm so excited! I feel like a kid in a candy store - so much to choose from now! With the addition of these points it'll give us two full weeks in a one bedroom yearly, plus a few extra days in a studio or maybe Vero Beach. We went with DVCResales, after checking all creditentials carefully. The transaction will be completed (hopefully) by the middle of Oct.

One bonus - and don't ask me how this worked out - I'm hopeless at details - we're not obligated to pay the annual fees on the new points until next year.

Please do. It will certainly be a few years until I talk DW into anymore points (at 420 now!) but you never know. Maybe we will go resale next time?
