How Can I Rent From a DVC Member?

My family is looking at options for our next disney vacation. We have always typically stayed at one of the All-Star Resorts for 6 or 7 days. This time though we have two weeks to spend in Disney from March 3-17, 2006.

So the simple question is how do I rent from a DVC member that is not using his/her points?

People occassionally post on here about points they have for rent. you can try other forums too. Just use caution and be careful of who you deal with. I don't know that much about DVC...only what I have read or noticed on here.

I think you have to find someone who has the points for sale, and then you guys work out an agreement, and the seller (renter) let's the home resort know?
I hope you get a for sure answer.

Re: How Can I Rent From a DVC Member?

This site seems to have the most active DVC site out there.

http://disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29

Mickey suggests you use an escrow company to hold your money to protect both parties. Once you check in and know all is well you call and release teh money to the DVC member.

Good luck!

Re: How Can I Rent From a DVC Member?

I just rented some of my points to alicefan through this website(look on the next section). The whole thing went very smoothly, and it was the first time for both of us. There are also other sites which are much more active that way. It's really a win-win when it works out. The DVC member gets some money for what would otherwise be wasted points, and the renter gets a room for a great rate. The going rate is about $10 per point. Good luck and have a magical day.

Re: How Can I Rent From a DVC Member?

Just make sure you are careful. I have sold points in the past on Ebay (I make the reservation, and sell the 5 nights). A couple of years ago, I was able to get $15 per point that way, but people are smarter now, and most of the time, it ends up somewhere right around $10 per point.

Figure out how many points you will need (any DVC member here can help you with that), and find someone who has that many points to sell. You will probably have the best luck with Disboards, as there are hundreds or posts there a day for trades. Work out your own deal with the seller, but if it is more money that you can stand to lose, I suggest you use an online escrow company like escrow.com. It might cost you $50 to do it, but it is much better than losing $1,500.

The DVC member will make the reservation in your name, forward you a copy of the confirmation, and you are all set. Once you check in, and everything is ok, then you can release the money. For most people, they will be fine with that. For those that are not fine, I would find someone else willing to sell.
