DVC Enforcing Transfer Limit

Hey,

Has anyone heard or been effected by Disney enforcing the policy of just 1 point transfer per year? I saw this noted in this months DVC e-mailed newsletter and people are discussing this all over that other board.

Anybody else even a little worried about this?

Sorry for sounding naive but what do you mean by a point transfer?

I read that too. There are a lot of upset people on another board. I think this is going to hurt the people who rent their points a lot. It looks like they are going to try to cut down on the owners who are renting most if not all of their points. I guess there are people who own a lot of points and don't use them but rent them for profit every year.

If you want to rent points from an owner you can have them transfered to your account or if you can use your points you can transfer them to another DVCer. You can only do 1 in a year now. That is going to make it hard for the people who only need a few more points to finish off their reservation--a lot of people won't want to waste their 1 transfer on a small amount of points.

Oh no! When does this go into effect? Our friends would like 40 points and we were going to buy points and transfer them to our DVC acct for better control....this may change our plans...

I think it is in effect now. I would call the DVC to ask if you can do what you want to do.

Yeah, that stinks. A co-worker realized she had some points that were going to disappear and she actually was going to transfer them to my account and just give them to me!! That would have been a huge bonus for me!! They wouldn't let her do it thought, so I wonder if this was the problem she encountered.

Wouldn't let her do it? I guess this started as soon as the news letter came out. It really is too bad for the people who are not trying to profit from their DVC membership. I know there are people out there who bought points only to rent but it can't be many compared to the number of people who belong to DVC. I guess a few ruin it for everyone.

Yeah, thats the unfortunate part. It also just hit me that perhaps since her points were about to expire maybe it was in some weird holding area, so to speak, where they wouldn't allow transfer? I don't know but I wish it would have worked. This was the beginning of June, so I am not sure when this "one transfer" news came out.

WEll that just stinks on ice. You buy into the DVC and you should be able to do what you like with the points. Maybe you rent your points as an investment type thing. What's the big deal?? I don't get this at all. Sometimes their (WDW) control over every single thing is a bit much I think. It's not like you are cheating anyone there. You paid for the points. Who cares how your use them??

I agree with you. I have to say this is my 1st negative DVC experience and I am not happy about this point. We were thinking about buying more points if the Contemporary happened. Now if we did that we would have too many points and if they are going to limit how we can use them, it will be too much work to get rid of them. NOT HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree - those are OUR points - bought and paid for - and Disney is profiting from that. This is just getting a little too greedy. Why should they care how the points are used, as long as theyre getting people into the properties? People in the suites mean money in the parks.:angry

Not only that but people who are renting points and who are happy with the DVC properties are liable to buy in. This is the one time I can honestly say that WDW is being compltely stupid and greedy. By allowing points to be rented often and by many, they are sort of advertising without paying a dime. Those people are more likely to buy into the DVC after they experience it....how greedy can they get. Someone needs to read this and think again.

I agree. I think all the DVC owners should send an e-mail using the DVC Members site. I just checked and you can do so by clicking on contact us.

I plan to do so tomorrow.
