How many points should we buy?

We are seriously considering DVC. I was wondering what a good starting point would be for points. We are a family of 5, and would a need , I guess, at least a one -bedroom unit every time. Our main goal would to be able to vacation at Disney once per year for 7-nights.

Thanks in advance!!!

What time of year do you wish to go, and do you plan on going the same time every year? This will affect how many points you will need.

Um...270 will get you a 1-bedroom, 1 week per year, during Magic season (doesn't include Christmas and Easter weeks). OKW would be less - 218 points.

OK Bruce dumb question (I'm sick and I'm not running on all cylinders ) what time of years us Magic Season? We are seriously considering buying in August when we go down. We would usually go during the summer months.

Right now we try and go every May. That could change in the future.

Looks like May will always be in the Dream Season, for the dates 3/10/03 thru 3/17/03 will cost following points:

OKW = 196
BC = 252
BWV = 210
WL = 252

Hope this helps, if you got some other dates in mind, I will be glad to check them for you.

:)

Thanks Spike! That gives me a good starting point, I know I could always ad some points on in the future.
Looks like OKW is the best buy, but, we love the locations of the BCV and BWV. Well, hopefully we'll be able to check them all out before we purchase.

Thanks again!!

For 2003, it's like this (the number of points is for a 1-BR at BCV for 1 week):

Adventure Season (200 points):

January 1-31
September 1-30
December 1-14

Choice Season (214 points):

October 1-31
November 1-25
November 29-30
December 15-23

Dream (252 points):

February 1-15
May 1-31
June 1-10
August 16-31

Magic (270 points):

February 16-28
March 1-31
April 1-12
April 27-30
June 11-30
July 1-31
August 1-15
November 26-28

Premier (350! points):

April 13-26
December 24-31

Remember, those Easter dates will shift each year!

We purchased 150 points for our family, and we always do a studio, which is 98 points for 7 nights. There is a HUGE point difference between a studio and a 2 bedroom! Unfortunatley a family of five cannot stay in a studio or a 1 bedroom.

I wonder if the new Saratoga Springs resort will have a studio which sleeps 5?? It would be worth checking on...

I have a family of 5. We have 300 points. For most times during the year the 270 points will get you a one bedroom at Beach Club for seven nights. It will get you more time at other facilities, or a bigger unit at other times of the year. I will someday add additional points to assure myself that I can get whatever I want anytime during the year. With 300, I can bank points each year and have more for a two bedroom the following year. We were very happy with the one bedroom. One reason, I would like a two bedroom is for a little more privacy for mom & dad, if you get my drift!:whistle: :love:

We purchased 270 points, and that is about right for us to travel two time every three years, and stay for about 12 days each time. We own at OKW, but have stayed at Boardwalk and Vero Beach, and plan on staying at Beach Club and hopefully Saratoga Springs on our next trip.
