DVC tour question

We'll be down in May staying on rented points.
I know, or think I know , that the DVC will give us a tour. How does that work ? Do they take you to all the different DVC properties ? Should we make an appointment ahead of time?

Thanks in advance!!!

We did ours a few years ago, so things may have changed...

While at one of the parks, we made plans to do the tour and made an appointment for the next day. They will pick you up wherever you want (and after will do the same). They took us to their offices on the Boardwalk. There, they have exact copies of the units at the various properties.

It's very low key, very informational. IF you decide to buy right there and then, warning, it will take a few hours to get all of the paperwork done. If you have kids, they have a 'day care' type of place that worked out well.

We did the tour in December of 2000. We planned it for the day we were leaving, that way we weren't cutting in to "park" time or wasting money on passes we weren't using.

We planned it at the information center in MGM. The guy told us if we planned it for lunch time, they would give us a certificate to eat lunch on the Boardwalk after the presentation. Randy, our sales rep was wonderful. No pressure. Very informative.

2 regrets: We didn't do it in 1994 when we had first learned about it and we didn't buy more points. 200 would have been great, but 150 works well for our family.

By the way, that child care center was awesome! My son didn't want to leave! We then had a wonderful lunch at Spoodles. Our meeting lasted about and hour and a half. They sent our paperwork to our house and we signed it and sent it back.

The other posters are right. Simply call DVC when you are on-site and they will take you to their models on Boardwalk. It will give you a real good idea of what they offer. Also, the new Beach Club Villas are just a short walk away. Ask them if they would take you over there for a look. Inside Beach Club they had a set of rooms you could go into on the ground floor. While you are there, go over to the hotel and check out Storm-A-Long Bay, the monster pool you would be using as a Beach Club member. Finally, flip on your TV. All of the TV's at Disney World have a DVC channel. It repeatedly runs a promotional video that you will find interesting. Call DVC when you get there for an appointment. Have FUN!!! :D :p

What they were doing last March was when you made your appt they arranged to pick you up in their van from wherever you were going to be. You get your "tour thank you" just for doing the tour...you don't even have to say you'll think about buying. Then they'll take you wherever you want to go afterwards, again in their van. The sales guys are not low pressure, they're NO pressure. They will actually show you models of one or two villas, but you can walk in and see any real ones at any location anytime they have someone at the front desk. Ask your sales guy what the hours are.

Hope that helps.

I was wondering what happens after you go thru the tour etc and want to purchase? What type of "paperwork" is involved? Is there anything that I need to bring with me as far as ID, SS card etc? Would it be better to have the DVC just send the paperwork to my home instead of us sitting there for a few hours? Thanks for any help :)

WEDINDISNEY,

If I had it to do again, I would've had them send it to me at home. It was very similar to buying a house - sign here, initial here, notarize here, dna sample here, etc... Okay, I made that last one up.

IIRC, we needed ID (driver's license) and the downpayment (check or credit card). I *think* that was it.

I think Bruce is right. I didn't plan on buying last spring so we didn't have anything with us that we wouldn't normally have had with us on vacation. And the DNA sample was even pretty painless. Even the paperwork didn't take as long as I thought it would. We always carry our drivers licenses with us & I put the deposit on a credit card (great use for Disney VISA) & we were off to WDW, all excited at being new DVC owners. Piece of cake from my perspective.
