Staying in a studio or 1 bdrm unit
Hi everybody, hope you are all well.
I have a Question. Disney states that the studio and 1 bedroom units provide a bed and a pop up sofa for sleeping. Disney also states the maximum occupancy is 4 in these units. Let's say you are staying in a 1 bedroom unit and you have two children that are in their teens and are of opposite sex. Have any of you been in a situation like this? Does anyone know if Disney provides a roll away bed for a studio or 1 bedroom unit so that the children can sleep in seperate beds, or do you have to book a 2 bedroom unit. As always, I thank you for your input and suggestions. Best regards, Last edited by wdw&tk; 08-21-2006 at 03:25 PM. |

Re: Staying in a studio or 1 bdrm unit
We have 12 yo twins (boy/girl) and have asked the DVC properties the same question. I can't remember the response of the rollaway, I'm sure if it was available, there was an extra charge. I asked if we could bring air mattresses, and they said no problem. We drive to WDW, so it's not really an issue of what we pack to take with us, as long as we have room in the suburban for it. So the kids sometimes take turns sleeping on the airmattress, sometimes they both have an airmattress, sometimes my DH sleeps with one & I sleep with the other and yes, sometimes they sleep together. DVC said they didn't mind where or how our party slept, as long as it didn't exceed the # of people limited to the room. Old Key West has the most room for adding extra "beds" to a studio. Not sure about 1 bedrooms...we've only stayed in studios.

Re: Staying in a studio or 1 bdrm unit
Thank you for the info, It would be nice if they have the option of a rollaway. You say that OKW has the best layout and that you could put an airmattress. I see that you have stayed at SSR & WL, how did you find the space at these two locations for four people I imagine that space would have tight if not impossible to lay an airmattress.

Re: Staying in a studio or 1 bdrm unit
At SSR, they actually slept together...we were prepared with 2 twin sized airmattresses that would have worked fine in the room without the sofa pulled out, but the sofa bed was comfy and they had no problem sleeping together. At WL we really lucked out and got a room with bunk beds...gosh I wish ALL of the resorts offered bunk beds!!! That would solve alot of issues and everyone would sleep so comfy. OKW studio has a larger studio with an odd shape, not you standard rectanglular room. So when we have the kids sleep on airmattresses, we rearrange a few things (table and chairs) and their "beds" fit up against the walls & we have plenty of room to walk around. Of course we have to furnish our own sheets for the twin airmattresses....but we've always been provided with extra blankets and pillows. Maybe you could take one airmattress and they can swap off mid vacation or every other night where the kids sleep.

Re: Staying in a studio or 1 bdrm unit
Oh, I wanted to add that even though I LOVE OKW and the room layout, there is one drawback to consider before you make a reservation. The bathroom. The bathroom contains the toilet, tub AND sink. Where at other resorts the toilet & tub are in a separate room and the sink is in the community area of the room. So depending on your family, there may be some "wait time" to get 4 people ready to go in the mornings. There are mirrors in the kitchette area and on the door of the bathroom facing out into the room, so that helps, but I just wanted to forewarn you of that part of the setup.

It sounds like you guys have a great time, I agree with you the bunk beds are great, one time we stayed in the cabins at Fort wilderness and it was excellent, they also give a murphy bed to open up in the living room. I guess where there is a will there is a way. How was your stay at wilderness lodge, our daughter always wanted to stay there. Hopefully, this May we can stay there.

Re: Staying in a studio or 1 bdrm unit
We're lucky in the fact that the kids don't really mind sleeping together, but I want them comfortable so everyone gets a good nights sleep...we are total commandos at the parks and need as much quality sleep as we can get. So we do what works, only time will tell how we will do things as they get older.
As for WL, I totally LOVE the resort as a whole. My DSis & family and My DParents stayed in the Villas in 2003 and absolutely loved every minute of their stay. We stayed only one night at WL last summer, it was our last night after staying at SSR (very quiet resort)for a week. Of course we stayed in the parks late and we checked into WL after midnight. They didn't have our AP discount applied to our ressie, after a week+ of playing, packing, moving, etc I couldn't find my confirmation letter (next time I'll put it in the glovebox of the car so I know EXACTLY where it is) anyhoo, we went round and round with the CM and was ultimately told that we would be charged full price and MAYBE they could resolve it in the morning. That didn't sit well with me. We loved the room, the layout, the view, but we heard every little nit pickin' noise in the hallway because of the crack under the door and we could hear the opening and closing of dresser drawers in the room above us. Neither of us are light sleepers, so I don't know if I was just perturbed from the checkin issues and not sleeping well or what, but we were awake more than we wanted to be that night. We should have been totally exhausted and slept like logs, but no such thing. In the morning, after much fussing...they finally honored the AP rate (saving about $100 I think). We still love the resort and visit it, but if we stay again, we'll go through DVC and stay in the Villas. Others have loved WL and not had the noise problem, so don't base your opinion on my ONE night there, just request a room in a low traffic area.

Re: Staying in a studio or 1 bdrm unit
Okay...I know every family is different, me and my bro never had a problem as teens. I mean we were at disney!!!!
Have you talked to your kids about their feelings on the subject? They may not care or they might. They may even have their own suggestions! I do however love the airmattess idea!!!! |

Re: Staying in a studio or 1 bdrm unit
Oh, another bonus to OKW is that there are 2 Queen Sized beds in the Studio, not a sofa bed...so the beds are a bit roomier than a sofa bed.

Re: Staying in a studio or 1 bdrm unit
my sister and i had the same problem. we brought a body pillow to put between us. i thought it was a bit funny, but she apparently did't like the fact that i was in the bed with her. by the end of the week, i was relocated to the floor.....
