Let's say the rumors become official and DVC opens at Contemporary and AKL. Obviously it's all only rumor and speculation right now, but you never know. We currently have 160 points at our home resort Saratoga Springs. We would LIKE to add 40 more points to bring us to 200 points. I know the MINIMUM to buy more from Disney is always at least 25 points, ok, got that covered. HERE is my question though, I THOUGHT if we bought 40 more points at let say Contemporary or something that we'd gain resort priority there too. I called and asked and I guess I was WRONG!?!? It was explained to me that you only have resort priority for the amount of POINTS you have at THAT resort. Meaning, if we only had 40 additional points at Contemporary we wouldn't be able to book anything there over 40 points until the rest of our points opened up at the 7 month mark?

I'm a little confused. Any takers?

(So really, it doesn't matter if I added on 40 more at SSR, or waited for Contemp. or AKL?)

It sounds to me like you have it covered. You can only book the amount of points which are available at the time.

So let's say I only have 40 points at Contemporary, could I essentially call for the "Contemporary" (or whatever mystery location) reservation and BORROW points from my other 160 at SSR to book it? Or is no, just no. No way around it. haha.

If the points are available to use, you should be ok. I don't understand the value in buying at another resort. Why not just add to your current stash?

Are there stories of DVC members not being able to get reservations?

Well i've heard about problems during times like summer, spring break, and Christmas break, which being a teacher, is always a concern to me. These are the times I have for the big WDW trips. Anyway, if I add more on I will probably do so just at SSR then, I didn't know it didn't make a difference.

If you call 11 months out to book something at the Contemporary (if it actually develops into a DVC property, of course), you may only use your 40 points; however, if you call to book 7 months out, you will be able to apply any or all of your SS points to the reservation as well.

If you plan on adding a smaller amount of points I suggest you buy at the same resort, because either way you'll have to wait for the 7 month window to book at a non-home resort.

Yes, I am in that boat right now! I am renting DVC points from a friend, and she owns at Saratoga Springs. I really didn't want to stay there, I wanted BCV, BWV or WLV. And NOTHING IS AVAILABLE!!!!! I am on the waitlist, but I am losing hope.

And this is for 12/3-12/8!!!

Got'cha! I had no idea, thank you Hehe, my DVC rep said this morning, "well you guys seem to be vacationing a lot, maybe by then if it does happen you'll be able to buy 150 more points." Ummm, don't hold your breath buddy, buying 40 more would be a huge purchase for us. hahahah.

Chris - what to you mean by this? say you have used up some points the prior year and now you have 120 points left, are you going to have a problem getting a reservation because you only have 120 points left this year. Why should the number of points you have affect the priority of you getting a reservation?

I think you would need to have enough points for your entire ressie at your home resort, 11 months out. Then you would get priority. (that's the way I am understanding it, anyway)

We couldnt get those dates either. I called so many times but never got put on the waitlist for it. We just moved our vacation up a week. Anyway I was talking with CM at DVC just yesterday cause I had a couple of questions and one of those ?'s happened to be about being waitlisted and she said from her experience not only working there but being a member herself for about 7 years she has always gotten what she wanted when she was on a waitlist. (thats good news)

I hope you get the dates that you want.....

I've been on the waitlist 3 times, and each time I received a call from MS about 25-30 days before we were leaving for our trip and got our room. You have to remember that with the 31 day cancel policy (so points stay out of holding), people will usually wait til the last moment to cancel. It can be a little scary waiting so long, but it has always worked out for us. Good luck.
