DVC Dilemma

I think I have finally talked my Hubby into the DVC. I ordered the book and got a planner, etc.

BUT, here is my problem.
He doesn't want to buy anything until he sees it first, so I made reservations for the first day we are in Disney in Jan (14th---8am) to go to Saratoga Springs.

Then, last week my planner called and said they are offering a 15% discount for the 15 year anniversary. She does not think it will be valid next year, though, only until the end of this year. I will miss it by 2 weeks.

Have they ever done offers like this before?

Re: DVC Dilemma

Yes. AND they can extend it if they want. Negotiate!

I bought more points this year. We were past a discount window, but they gave me the discount anyway.

Because I'm such a nice guy, I think.

Re: DVC Dilemma

They usually try to offer different incentives, when I bought into DVC we got a 15% off "referral discount." I am not 100% sure if they can extend the offer or not BUT if you "get the ball rolling" and ask them to send you the sign-up package BEFORE the promotion ends (It does require a SMALL fee) I believe you are locked into the offer. This way you get the official membership "join" packet, can fill everything out & notarize AFTER you get home from your trip, and still get the discount.

Good luck, we LOVE being members!

Re: DVC Dilemma

Thanks---my DH thinks if we are ready to buy, they will work with us. My DVC rep told me because we have inquired and gotten the book, she has me in so even if the price goes up next year, ours stays at this year's, but that discount would be wonderful....

Re: DVC Dilemma

Tell hubby he has nothing to worry about. It's Disney and it's what you'd expect from Disney. If it wasn't 1st class they never would have gotten past the 1st DVC location, and the prices wouldn't be going up - it's the ONLY time share that does.

There are PLENTY of timeshares that I wouldn't buy unseen but only a few I would (DVC, Marriott, & Sheraton)

I can certainly understand not wanting to make such a huge purchase "sight unseen", but I can assure you you will find NOTHING lacking with the DVC accomodations. They are absolutely gorgeous (and this comes from a woman who's dh says of her "she use to be a five-star girl, until she found out there were 6 stars"). Hate to admit it, but I'm an accomodations snob - I love having the best - and DVC accomodations are "the best". Knowing what I know about them, I can say with good conscience that it's not a gamble to buy "sight unseen". Good luck whatever you decide! (we bought more points in the Spring and got a discount that had "just expired" - Disney wants you to buy - they'll be willing to negotiate a bit.)

Re: DVC Dilemma

Yes, tell them you are extremely interested in the DVC but you will not be in the area till such a date. If they wish to pay for airfare and hotel accommodations prior to your vacation date, you will be happy to view the property...

In other words, they aren't going to send you airfare/hotel expenses, but they will probably let you save the 15%.

Good luck
