Shameless plug for DVC referrals.

I've noticed quite a number of MouseBuzzers talking about possibly joining, or looking into joining, the DVC. Just wanted to put it out there that DVC members really appreciate referrals Sometimes we get discounts or bonuses, etc for referrals and I figured if another Mousebuzzer was joining you might as well use another Mousebuzzer for the referral. I had so many nice people here offer me information and help me make the decision to join and I used another person as a referral too.

Anyway, just food for thought.

Kim, I believe there is a 15th Anniversary discount, but I am not 100% sure. I think the going rate is around $100, or maybe $101, per point. I know with my referral discount, 15% off, I got 160 for about $13,000 (but that was January '06 when the going rate was $98. per point).

If you don't mind me asking, how does the financing work on that? I am pretty clueless about DVC and may want to see if I qualify. I would love to know that I have a trip every year through out DD's highschool and college years... I would need to pay it off quickly however, but wasn't sure what you needed to qualify. Are the payments ridiculous? What is the yearly fee and how do you pay that?

Dana, I don't mind being frank about it at all. Yes, you do need to qualify for the financing but if your credit score is higher than 700 you get automatic approval, if not, still no problem... they just require you send in 3 payroll stubs and maybe a bank statement or something for approval. I didn't have to go through that process so I am not sure 100% BUT I do remember reading 3 paystubs were required. The payments are not ridiculous at all, in my opinion. I have 160 points, which is a pretty popular starting points package, and they were asking for $150. per month on that financing package. Of course you can pay any amount you'd like per month over that, towards principal. You get a payment booklet and everything, just like a car payment, etc. They finance at 10% if you choose to have your monthly payment "directly debited" from your checking account, 11% if you choose the monthly coupon method.

When you asked about the "annual fee" I am assuming you mean maintanence fees? For 160 points I pay right around $600/year. I pay one lump sum on that in January but you can also elect to have it added as part of your monthly payments, I believe, or maybe they break it down in 4 payments per year for you. I know there is some other way to do it, I just can't remember.

I hope that helps :)

That is very helpful....I may actually qualify...hmmmm. See now you got me thinking and I will be staying at a DVC resort in a few weeks...I may come home a DVC member..lol Thanks for your help. The payments are not ridiculous in the least and is something I can squeeze into my budget...maybe. I will have to see. Thanks again.

Just food for thought Dana, when we added the total price we spent, on average, for 4 week-long Disney vacations it came to the total price of the DVC package, which ensures us vacations until 2054. That was our deciding factor.

4, week long Disney trips (which i have taken 5 of in the past three years) = the cost of DVC until 2054?

I'm trying to understand also. That's just the cost of the room right? You still have to pay for passes, and of course, travel to get there?

Yes, you are right. But we get the annual pass discount too. I think they were $300 per adult with no blackout dates.

Re: Shameless plug for DVC referrals.

bethishooked, there are several additional expenses-financing costs, if applicable; annual dues; meals eaten outside of your vacation home and/or food/supplies to stock your kitchen in your vacation home; and park tickets, to name a few-one must take into account when considering a DVC purchase.

That said, if you are a regular WDW visitor, you can save $$ by owning DVC and you get all the perks of staying on WDW property as well as the BEST accommodations available to guests. In addition, there are DVC member perks, such as the $100 discount currently offered (mentioned previously) for an annual pass purchase.

I am fairly certain that we have had the "plugs" for DVC posted on DC a long time ago, too.

Re: Shameless plug for DVC referrals.

we stayed at our first DVC resort over labor day weekend, and we really liked the fact the we had the best of both worlds. we were able to eat on the dining plan, but we were also able to make meals (mainly breakfast) in the room thanks to the kitchen. after that trip, dw and i are kicking ourselves for not joining sooner.

Re: Shameless plug for DVC referrals.

We certainly have never regretted our purchase.

I cannot imagine better accomodations than the DVC properties. And now that we've paid off our loan, other than the maintenance fees, I look at our accomodations as "free". Wasn't there a thread recently that said the rack rate for the Poly was close to $500.00 a night! For $600.00 a year, we're staying in a two bedroom suite for a week.

Personally we use the kitchen a lot - and I think the more DVC member go down, the more it is used - because, naturally, you have more WDW trips than most people and there comes a time when you realize you've done every restaurant 3 times.

There is also that "intangible" of feeling like you're really "home".
