Tipping house keeping at OKW

I am not having tradional mousekeeping service while at OKW. I check in on the 25th and we have a "towell service" on the 28th. I assume they clean up when we leave. What do I tip them? Having never stayed at OKW or a DVC resort, I have no idea what the normal is for this. Any help is appreciated.

AT SSR, we left a tip the day we had towel service (maybe like 4 bucks)and guess what? They DIDN'T straighten up. They just left the towels. We left a tip on the last day too, of couse.

Re: Tipping house keeping at OKW

It's Trash & Towel - empty cans and put in new towels and that's all.

It is the normal service. Personally, I don't like tipping for what is someone's normal job that they are paid to do. Nobody tips ME and most likely YOU for doing your job. (Yes, there are jobs where tips are a large part of the income, but they are more personal service in nature.)

I pay premium price for DVC membership (or for that matter any resort accomidations) and I EXPECT premium service. I tip, and tip well for EXTRA service.

I usually leave a few bucks for a stay but it's SHOULD be something you want to do NOT something expected.

Re: Tipping house keeping at OKW

We usually leave a tip each day bur if the service goes a little downhill (whch it came at times, usually around the mid point of the trip) then we lessen the tip or just don't leave one at all until the service improves.

It would make more sense for us to actually just leave an all over tip at the end of the stay but you find that you can have the same mousekeeper for your entire trip then on the last day someone new will clean the room and get the tip for only a days work in your room.

I think it all just depends on personal preference.

If it is only trash and towell service, then I will leave a small tip of like $5. I think that's fair since they are not cleaning the place, only picking up our trash and replacing our towells. I will, however, leave a tip at the end when they actually have to clean the place up from our stay. I am not a DVC member...only renting points, so I feel compelled to leave something.

Dana - $5.00 will ample for the middle of the week. Believe me - they do ABSOLUTELY nothing else. No tidying whatsoever.

Re: Tipping house keeping at OKW

We usually do $5 mid week if they come in to exchange towels. Sometimes we've seen them outside of the rooms and go down and do the exchange ourselves...I have issues with people coming into my room when I'm not there.
At SSR we were left a laundry basket by the door 1st thing in the morning w/fresh towels, linens, TP, etc. That way you can take/use what you need w/out interruption from housekeeping. I loved the service over there!!

Thanks for the tip. Is it the norm at OKW for them to just leave it at the front door?

Re: Tipping house keeping at OKW

No, they don't leave towels/sheets at the front door at OKW...we've just had that service at SSR. Sometimes we see housekeeping w/cart outside of our room area and will exchange our own towels that way.

Re: Tipping house keeping at OKW

Some people seem to tip to ease their own conscience as opposed to tipping because somebody did a good job and deserves a little extra. I always say leave what you think the person deserves for whatever it was they did for you. Don't just leave what somebody else feels is the norm.

Well I like to get opinions on what people normally leave. I don't want to not leave something and you are supposed to or tip every day like a fool and they don't even come. I have never stayed at a DVC place and was uncertain. I'll tip the $5-$6 dollars for the towell pick-up. there are 6 people staying there and that seems reasonable to be. If they cleaned the place too, then I'd leave more. I was just trying to find out what people tipped "normally" for their services...kinda a poll and opinion.
