Icon13 Problems with 7 month window?

Ok...we just bought at SSR, 300 points. SSR would probably not be our first choice for a DVC resort although we did enjoy our week there in September. Our last day there we had the main pool all to ourselves! Just the 4 of us and the 3 lifeguards! We want to try all of the DVC resorts. So far we have stayed at OKW and SSR and next May will try BCV.

Now here is my question to you folks...what have been your experiences with the 7 month window? I've read, on one of the many Disney boards, that getting the two bedroom villas, like we will be doing, gives you a better chance with the 7 month window. So far that seems to be true because I submitted the e-mail request this morning before lunch and had the confirmation waiting for me when I got home!

How say you all?

Thanks, friends!

Re: Problems with 7 month window?

We own at OKW, and always get 2 bedroom villas. We have had no problems at all 7 months out. I suggest you go ahead and book SSR 11 months out, as a backup, and then at the 7 month date, call and change it to the resort of your choice. WLV is often tough to get, but every time I have called 7 months out, both BCV and BWV have been available.

I have a ressie for SSR for 12/3-12/8...and I have been on the waitlist for BCV, BWV or WLV since the 7 month window! My first time renting points, and I don't get what I want. Oh well...I hear SSR is OK though!

For some reason, that week is packed, all of the Disney resorts are sold out, so that is kind os strange situation.

We usually go in early March, and have never had a problem.

Re: Problems with 7 month window?

We have been owners for a little over 1 year and have stayed in all 5 of the on site DVC resorts. We have stayed in 1 bedrooms so far but will be upgrading to 2 bedroom villas starting next year. My youngest is still 2 so we can get in a 1 bedroom still. Of the trips we have taken this upcoming one in December to VWL is the only reservation that we made at the 7 month window. All of the others were within a month or two. I think a big factor is the time of year that you go.

Re: Problems with 7 month window?

Hello there! We bought at SSR last year and this was our concern too. Although, it hasn't been a problem yet. We got into Boardwalk Villas for 8 nights this past August. The only problems I hear of are the unfortunate REALLY busy times when the resorts are booked solid with "home resort" DVC members but there is a waiting list. iluvwdw, Kim, has unfortuantely been on that waiting list since 7 months out and I REALLY REALLY hope she gets what she wants. Although, that is the first situation where I am hearing of this problem. I agree with Mickey, ALWAYS book at SSR 11 months out "just in case."

the week after that (12/9-12/16) is the same way. we have 2 room @ ssr, and have been on the waitlist for everything else since the 7 month window.

Re: Problems with 7 month window?

Different resorts have different numbers of 2 bedroom villas. Therefore at some places you will find it easy, other more difficult. And the time of the year will come into it also. You will have almost no chance of a 2 bedroom villa at the Beach Club in December unless it is your home resort.

It is most likely just the night of 12/9 that is busy. We may be a bit close, but check and see if 12/10 - 16 is available anywhere.

Re: Problems with 7 month window?

Thanks, everyone! I'll definately do the SSR 11 month backup plan starting with our next trip. For iluvwdw, we just stayed in a one bedroom at SSR in September. Other than the living/dining area being a little cramped, the resort itself was great. I think we got spoiled with the 1 bedroom we had at OKW in 2005. It is about 150 sq ft larger than SSR and all of that was that living/dining space.

Re: Problems with 7 month window?

We did the 11 month windows backup plan for Dec 16 - Dec 19 at SSRS and had no problem switching to VWL at 7 months. Must have been lucky. We did go for the 2 bedroom villa (we usually do). Last year we were able to get 2 studios at the same time of year at SSRS with no problem using the 11 month window.

It is our home resort, so I guess I am lucky I booked as soon as the window opened.

The way some "old-timers" have it explained, the slower times in the parks usually equates to the busier times in the DVC resorts. (Fewer points, etc) Most I have spoken to have had limited luck with trying to change resorts.

Pretty accurate guideline - with Christmas being the exception which is VERY busy in parks AND in DVC resorts

We just got wait listed at HH at the 7 month window. We called the first day we could. Has anyone had any experience with HH and getting a reservation there. We are trying to get the first week of June and they are apparently booked. Any ideas ......

Re: Problems with 7 month window?

This is just turning out too good. Not only did we get our BCV for May, on a whim I just managed to book a Deluxe Royal Palm Club room for February 14 - 15 for our 10th wedding anniversary. And if that wasnt sweet enough, we are eating dinner at Victoria and Albert's on the 15th (anniversary). Our twins are sitting this trip out but at age 5, I'm sure they wont mind too much. With only one full day there, I'm thinking that a trip to the spa might be in order.

BTW, DW doesnt know where we are going...

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!
