Has anyone used the trip insurance offered with DVC stays?

I just called member services to double check on what to do to make a ressie and made mention of it's almost scary to make one so far in advance. Then she said you always get info for trip insurance with a confirmation. I didn't know you could get insurance. Has anyone used it and what was the costs?

I did once. I do not remember the cost. But it was not an enormous amount. The reason we did it was it was a trip of me, my Mom, my sister and my daughter. My sister had to have surgery on her thyroid, but she did not know when. So we took the insurance just in case her surgery was scheduled when our trip was!

The cost of the Disney insurance is $60 per adult (18 and older) listed on the reservations. Please remember you can only get insurance on a package reservation, and not just any excuse will work. There has to be some reason why you can't go (you are in the hospital, etc.). Any money you pay on a package is fully refundable up until 45 days before you travel, so even if you book it today, and cancel 46 days before you go, you would get all your money back (unless you had insurance that is, since that is non-refundalbe).

The reason we are thinking about insurance is mostly weather at the end of sept. We would be using banked points that have to be used by nov 30, 2007. So if a hurricane pops up, we would only have about a 7 week window to use the points.

We've purchased the insurance several times and thankfully we've never used it. We've paid based on cost of vacations and equivelency of points vs cash...we've only paid between $35-$70 for one-two rooms. We were never charged per adult. Wonder if we went through a different insurance company, but the info came with our DVC confirmation. We bought it for our Keystone (DVC point) trip this past summer and it was $63 I think.

Thanks for the info. The only info MS gave me was if you need to cancel you get paid cash not points returned. But she didn't want to guess what the cost or reasons to cancel would be. (I'm sure she had some idea, just didn't want to be quoted as factual numbers, I can understand that.) This last trip with a disney package for a room at POP, my DD got insurance that you choose the level of coverage. Don't know the cost, but she got insurance in case the baby got sick. I think weather would be the big thing in the fall. I still need to wait a few days before I can make the ressie, so I guess in about a week or so, I'll know the details.
