This is for all you experts. We have a dec use year and 200 points. We have banked this year's points. Next Oct. we planned to stay for 6 nights in a two bedroom. We will start at SSR but am hoping to switch to BCV or BWV. We also plan to stay for a few days at the end of Nov in a studio at wherever. If we move to BCV, that will take more points than SSR. What happens if we get wait listed and the room becomes available after we banked our extra points, can we borrow points at that time?

That was one of the questions we had when we were joining - if we banked and changed our minds and needed points what would happen?

Our DVC guide told us if we banked our points those points remain banked until the next use year BUT we could borrow next years points so it would even out.

Just double check to make sure!

Thanks all, no body told me I'd have to use my brain with DVC. I know it's good deal overall, but it does take some thinking. I love the fact that a 2 bedroom for 6 nights will "cost" us about $1,000 in yearly dues, but getting 3 rooms at a value (even with a discount) would cost about $1,300 (or more). And the DVC rooms are so much nicer.

This sounds right to me. We once had to retroactively bank points for a booked vacation - or something like that.

A well placed phone call to DVC Membership should answer your questions. I've found that they are very helpful and usually know the finer points of the program.

I am not currently a DVC member, but the way I understand it from talking to my friend who is and hearing the sales pitch last year, you ARE allowed to use points from the previous year (banked), current year, and future year (borrowed) during the same trip. Can some of our members please shed some light if I am wrong???

That sounds correct. We were told by our DVC guide that you could use points banked from the previous year, plus your current points as well as borrow points from the next year.
But as always, call DVC and make certain before schedule your vacation

This has happened to me for my forthcoming December trip so I know exactly what you are asking. The simple answer is YES. When Disney phone you up to say you have been successful with the wait list, they will also inform you that you will ned to borrow extra points because of the upgrade.

Everyone's right on the money. Once banked you cannot use until your next use year window opens. However, you can borrow from your next use year as many points as you receive. Your banked points will stay and when the window opens you will still have the banked points minus the points you borrowed for that use year.

Should'nt be a problem. This year I took my sister and her family, my parents, and my girlfriend to OKW. Had a 2 bedroom, and 2 studios. Used all of 2005 banked points, all of 2006 points and all but 1 2007 future points.
