OKW or BW that is the question.
Hi everybody, no luck, Disney exercised their ROFR and bought the Vero Beach contract I was looking to buy. So, back to the drawing board. With the additional information I have gained over my time on Mousebuzz, I am now more confused about how many points and where to buy. I think we need about 170 points to stay comfortably for 5 days.
Do I buy at OKW or BW? We are not always sure when we will travel and as such we probably will not always be booking before the 7 month window. Is it worth to pay the extra price and maintenance fee to buy BW over OKW. What do you folks think and suggest about this dilemma. As always thank you for your suggestions. TK |

Re: OKW or BW that is the question.
Personally, I recommend SSR so that you get the extra 12 years. Unless you are planning on going at the busiest times of the year, getting a ressie at non-home properties has not proved to be a problem or us.
On another note, we really like SSR because of it's proximity to DTD. And the bus service to the parks is excellent. However, for every person registered on this board, there will be that many different opinions. Have you stayedat either of the properties you are interested in? What were your reasons for making an offer on Vero first? |

I work at Old Key West, and it is wonderful there. The rooms are larger than other places. In my opinion the First One is the Best One!!!

Re: OKW or BW that is the question.
We haven't stayed at either resort, but I have family who bought into OKW. They love it.
For us, the location is very important. I don't think you can beat the BCV/BW location.

Re: OKW or BW that is the question.
I think that Disney is only selling SSR at the moment (they were when we bought additional points last fall) - so you don't really have a choice. Rumour has it that they are starting to build at Animal Kingdom Lodge soon - but that's still a rumour. The only way you could buy at OKW or BW is through a re-sale - but you've gone that route. I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier - I could have saved you a lot of trouble. Same thing happened to us last Spring. Disney is now using it's Right of First Refusal more than ever. Our points are at Vero Beach and SSR - yet we've never had trouble booking into the resorts we want (especially OKW- which is our favourite resort, too). In the last 6 years we've stayed at every WDW DVC property without having too much of a problem at all.

They wouldn't buy them if there wasn't a profit motive. Buy more than you think you want. I bought 200 to start then another 260 a year and a half later. (Only hurts when the annual fee is due. ) Pretty solid rumor is that next DVC will be @ contempary. Might be worth wait now that SSR is nearing completion.

Re: OKW or BW that is the question.
I bought into the DVC a few years after it started and my home resort is OKW. I have never stayed in any of the other DVC resorts because I am so satisfied with OKW. First the location is great! Its right next door to DTD and is pretty much centrally located throughout the WDW property. Also, if you want to be more secluded and alittle more relaxed on your vacations I would say pick OKW. BW is great if your planning on staying up late and partying. Oh and if your planning on bringing a car, OKW has parking right next to your villa. BW you park in a central parking lot and have to walk to your rooms. I hope this helps with your decision and I didnt say to much of what you already know.

Re: OKW or BW that is the question.
Everybody, thank you for your wonderful replies and great information. I too was leaning more for the OKW. The maintenance fees would be easier to manage down the road & the point usage is less for this resort, not to mention the fact that the units are larger. The only reservation I had was the fact that our Sheraton timeshare was of a similar set up and I thought maybe BW would be better because of its location and set up. I almost took another try at buying OKW points, however, with our sons university co-op education, we have limited windows of opportunity to travel.
I soo much want to buy, but for the next couple of years we will not have the opportunity to travel. If I buy now, I am not sure if we can use our points for travel. It may put additional stress to travel if we can't find the time. Once again, thank you all for your wonderful input. TK |

Why not send away for the DVC video? It's very informative.
