DVC Points question
Thank you Cavey for posting the points list for 2006 on another thread
Ok...so here's my question When you buy into DVC are you locked into the points list for that year or do they change every year??? I mean, for example, if SSR is 95 points for a week in January will it always be 95 points a week or next year could it go up to 96 etc.??? Just wanted to know it the points change on you and the points you originally buy become less valuable?? Thanks for the help! |

Re: DVC Points question
Within the DVC resorts, the total points per year stay the same per unit stay the same. The dates vary slightly but off season for a week will always be approximately the same. An increase somewhere has to result in a decrease somewhere else.
I have used points to stay in other WDW resorts (i.e. POLY) and it cost more per night (considering the annual & initial purchase price) but still way below normal rates. My trip in Dec is about 50% of rack rate for the rooms I'm getting.

Re: DVC Points question
As mentioned, your points do not devalue over time. The only thing that changes is that seasons may shift a bit here and there depending on holidays, but for the most part, the point charts are identical from year to year. So, if you go every year from December 1 - 8, your price will be identical every year.

The way I look at the total cost is what I actually paid for the points divided by the number of years then add the annual maint cost for the year. (Ok all you accountant types, I know I'm not considering opportunity cost, etc.) Right now it about $6 per point per year. So if I stay in a studio mid week off season I can stay for $48 a night, with no taxes to pay. Try to stay ANYWHERE in Orlando for a $48, much less onsite!
