Could it be true???

My DH is ACTUALLY considering DVC????? When I spoke to him about it today and mentioned how badly I wanted it (we own a bunch of timeshare with Starwood already) and then I talked about how we could rent out the points every other year and go every other year, he was all ears at that point. "We could make money on the off years? Why, maybe I'll consider it!!!"

I WAS FLOORED! I will not count my chickens, but I will definitely plan to see a DVC rep while we are there in August! But I think I will buy resale, if I do buy at all. Pros/Cons to doing this???

I just wanted to say congrats to you on making headway with you DH. Having him consider it is definately better than him saying no way. The DVC rep should be able to sell it to him sorta speak. Best of luck to you with this....Keep me in mind for off year points..lol

I am so psyched!!! We had excellent luck renting out our Starwood timeshare this year to the Atlantis, Eugene sees the $$ and told me he wants to buy another week! I said WAIT, BEFORE WE BUY ANOTHER STARWOOD, NOW IS THE TIME TO REALLY THINK ABOUT DVC!!!!! And the conversation went from there.

He DIDN'T say NO WAY this time!!!!!! When he said he'd think about it, I said "HOW COME YOU SAID NO WAY IN THE PAST?" He said we didn't have the money at all then. Now that we're starting to do well with our bills and stuff, he will consider it...especially since there is a HUGE market for renting out points! Plus, the AKL addition and *maybe* Contemporary!!!!!!

I'm thinking resale...anyone have experience with this?

Kim, I just got the closing documents for the resale DW and I are looking into. So far it has gone fairly smoothly. If you do resale, I whole heartedly recommend The Timeshare Store. I will PM the link to their site. Great group there. Hope you guys can get aboard!

Congrats, Kim!! We have been looking at buying DVC for a long time but I just can't make myself spend the money right now. I know we should buy it now but I can't even though my DH is telling me to do it. I worry about spending that much money. I usually make myself physically sick when I buy a car. When we bought our house I was throwing up I was so worried.

We're not buying YET...but he will ACTUALLY entertain the idea!!! WHICH IS HUGE!!! I will keep working on him. I think the fact that we can make money on the off years is enough to keep his interest!!! YAY...I hope this works out!!!!!

Steph, I think you guys would be PERFECT candidates for DVC!!! You go every year and stay Deluxe. And you LOVE VWL! AND YOUR DH IS TELLING YOU HE WANTS TO BUY!!!! I'd go for it...

We just can't get on the same page with it. A few years ago I was sooo ready to buy and he said no, then he was ready to buy and I said no......We just keep going on like that, never on the same page at the same time--must be why we only have one child too!!

Kim - I will keep my fingers crossed for you. From my experience, after market is beneficial if you are looking at OKW, HH or Vero Beach, the others are just as expensive as buying from Disney when you consider the closing costs. If you are lucky you may find a contract for approximately $80-$92/point. the $80 being for SSR and the $92 for Beach club. These contracts would be more than 150 points, the greater the number the of points the lower the price per point.

I have tried twice to buy after market and both times Disney has bought the contracts back. Don't be disappointed if they buy it back, be patient and it will happen. I am trying again, hopefully, the third try will be the lucky one.

For now, educate yourself as much as possible, that way when you go in Aug and meet with the Disney representative you will have a better idea if what they are offering is a good deal.

Thank you SO MUCH for this info!!!! That is EXACTLY what I intend to do. I will keep checking out DVC Resale/Timeshare Store to see what their prices look like. I am thinking SSR because of the longer contract. $80 per point is the most I'd want to pay.
