Can you rent DVC points using a TA?

Can you rent DVC points when using a TA? Or do you have to find your points your self? We are SERIOUSLY considering renting DVC point for our next trip so I'm trying to get some info.

Re: Can you rent DVC points using a TA?

I don't see how it would be possible to rent from a TA, they could only book a DVC resort on cash. I've rented points a couple of times and it is a great way to save money.

It's very easy. You just have to find the right person because there's some trust involved.

So they book the vacation for you, correct? So how far in advance should we start the process? We are looking at October 2008.

Yes, they book it all for you then send you the paperwork. You should start looking about a year out because DVC members can book at their home resort 11 months out.

This site seems to have the most DVC rent traffic I've seen.

Re: Can you rent DVC points using a TA?

Willbegone, we have rented twice before...once from someone on Ebay and once from a friend. It is a MUCH more affordable way to stay in a Deluxe Resort! We stayed in a studio at SSR in December for less than $110 a night...cheaper than a moderate! Since I don't own DVC and don't see that happening in the VERY near future, if I want to stay onsite with no Free Dining deals at the time, I would DEFINITELY rent points again!!!!!

Like Steph said, check out Dis...they have TONS of people renting there! The going rate is about $10 per point. Just ask for references before hand and look for an existing member...not just someone with 10 posts!

GOOD LUCK!!!

My goal is to get to the point that I have enought points to rent some and cover some/all of the annual points I use. Up to 560 now and after using points for a cruise I'n not sure if I'll EVER have "extra" points to rent.

Re: Can you rent DVC points using a TA?

I became a DVC member, after I rented points. Once from a friend & once from the boards (different one). I enjoyed staying on property & not having to pay for all the extra charges (tax).

I happen to like the fact that mousekeeping does not come in everyday, because then I do not have to put everything away. I do like the fact if I am staying in a 1, 2 or bedroom or Grand Villa I have access to a washer/dryer in my room. I cooked in the kitchen, I believe 2 times in the past 7 stays in DVC. So, for me that was not a perk, but I like the fact that if every I want to I can. I do like the fact I have a refrigerator to keep water, milk, fruit & ice cream.

I also like the fact that if you want the DDP you can get it without having to buy park tickets. There are many "perks" in owning at DVC. For Example if you wish to purchase an annual pass adult save $100 & children save $88, renewal savings are Adult $90, children $79. You can use your points at other locations besides Disney.

Once you purchase DVC I figured out, based on 200 points per year for my family and if you take a vacation every year, after 10-12 years your initial investment pays for itself. Then after that all it is a yearly fee. Yearly fees are charged based off of a per point charge and are charged yearly from purchase. Right now, AKV maintence fees are $4.62 per point. So if you buy the minimum amount of point, 160 points per year it would be $739.20 for the year or about $62 per month.

Good Luck
