I have a general DVC question

Ok so I received my big box of goodies and the big packet of member discounts etc...
1. is it me or is it kind of vague? I wish that there was a specific handbook that lists discounts and perks etc...
2. I also looked on the website and it appears that only particular places offer discounts - do these change?
3. This season specific thing they send you a week or so before your trip- does it have the most recent dicounts and offers?
4. You get special offers as an AP holder- does this mean that they are more interested in you buying an AP and just assume that everyone does?
5. Is there a limit to how many AP you can buy? My sisters are going with us for two of our trips and it would make sense for them too
6. I sent back my paperwork last Wed- do I get anything more in the mail to confirm things?
7.I had made my reservation last monday and have not recieved any confirmation either in the mail or email. Also online there is no record of my request- I still have all of my points.Should I call again?
8. When you buy AP online how do you redeem them? Are the kids ones different from the adult ones?
9. Is the "welcome home wednesdays" really only at the boardwalk and is it worth going to? Im trying to plan what days are where and being that we are new it sounds fun but is it a waste of time?

Im sure Ill have more questions....

Re: I have a general DVC question

I can answer question number 5. You can only get a discount on the people living at your house. My DVC friend can't get my family APs even though we travel with them.

Question 7--Did you make that reservation with developer points? If so it takes longer because that is done by hand form what I have read.

Re: I have a general DVC question

ok- so does that mean that because they use my home as a permanent address that I could pull that off for my sisters? I was thinking of buying them online because its easier that way- they also have proof that they "live" here since their liscences say so-
I did use developer points for most of it and about 60 points aside from that. I dont know how the norm works yet so I just did not know if something happened... Why am I so nervous???? That skeptic in me was freaking when the website was down.... almost as if it were a scam (although I know its not- its just my preset mind kicking in)

Re: I have a general DVC question

Nothing to worry about! I have been a member since 2003, and book 2 to 3 trips a year and have always been impressed by the service of DVC. You will get a small version of the benifits called "Pocket Perks" when you check in. I have not seen to many changes over the years for new discounts. The Website to me is kind of hard to navigate at times, I personally enjoy talking to DVC on the phone, It gets me excited about the trip. The confirmation takes about 2 weeks to show up in the mail. I also use them to book my flights and car rentals, it is nice to have a "Turn Key" booking process.

Hope this helps! Enjoy DVC, It is truly an awsome experience!

I have never been to the Wednesday gig. I, too, wonder if it is worth attending?

Re: I have a general DVC question

i am not a DVC memebre , but I can answer # 8.

we buy our AP's online...you receive a voucher in the mail...one per adult, one per child...they look & feel like credit cards. they are attached to a receipt and letter telling you: to redeem them at any guest services window at the parks..MK is where we redeem ours...it's always our 1st park to visit.

when you get there, you turn into them the voucher cards and they ask to see the driver's licenses of all adults. they print your park passes out and give you a little packet that tells you every single discount availabel to you...where & what. they also reminded us that is we loose our paper passes before our next trip, it's no biggie...they will only need to see our ID's again and then they can print us out new ones!

simple! :C)

So the annual pass is not like a credit card? Is it like the paper tickets you get for one day pass?
Here is another question- and Im not trying to be dishonest or anything- but Do the kids passes look different? One of my kids will change over halfway through the year and I would rather not have to pay the higher cost if I dont have to-

Re: I have a general DVC question

You won't have to pay the higher cost, it's their age when you bought the pass. They look the same, different pictures, but your names will be on each pass.

APs are paper but hold up well.

Re: I have a general DVC question

Hi everyone... I have one more question.

What if you end up no longer able to pay for your memebrship, say, when you are 70 or something. How hard is it to sell the membership?

Re: I have a general DVC question

There are a few re-sale websites; however, Disney has the right of first refusal. The better way would be to rent your points each year and make a nice profit.

It depends when you are trying to sell it. Right before your membership runs out it will be hard but things seem to be moving on the resale sites right now. If you pay it off all you'll really owe is the yearly dues and you should be able to rent your points and more than pay for the dues.

since there is a push now to renew years on OKW I assume that by the time your membership is expiring there will be serious changes to the whole program in general- after all they wont be looking to resell 40 year old buildings- perhaps there will be new ones built by then- WDW is not even 40 years old yet! (trust me I know- I was born the same year as WDW)

I'm sure there will be changes between now and then. I was surprised at how many OKW members passed on the 10 years when it was offered, I thought most people would do it. I'm not sure what we'll do if and when it's offered at BCV. We may not want it by that point.
