Weekly versus daily points

Alright, DH is on board, and we are discussing logistics and giving them a call this weekend.

I'm a little unclear on one thing about the points charts:

Example:
Sun-Thu 11 points
Fri-Sat 23 points
Weekly 101 points

What does the weekly mean? If I wanted to stay Sun-Sat, for example, do Iuse the weekly point rate, or can I add Sun-Thu x 6, and then Fri x 1?

Its the one thing I just can't seem to wrap my head around!

Re: Weekly versus daily points

Well, the math comes out to 101 points
5x11 Sunday - Thursday + 46 points for Friday and Saturday = 101 points.

Re: Weekly versus daily points

They basically split the days for you in case you want a ressie for less than a week. MANY DVCers move on Fri or Sat nights, to save points. As you can see, it's over DOUBLE on Fri and Sat night.

Sun - 11 points
Mon - 11 points
Tues - 11 points
Wed - 11 points
Thurs - 11 points
Fri - 23 points
Sat - 23 points
TOTAL - 101 points/week

Re: Weekly versus daily points

So, if I wanted to book Sun-Sat, it'd be cheaper than Mon-Sun, right?
B/c I'd be 5 nights @ 11 points, and 1 at 23, right?

I just want to make sure I get it. lol

Re: Weekly versus daily points

Your best bet is to check in on a Sunday and then check out on friday and pay cash for a cheapo room if you want the weekend. Its just very costly in points to do it over the weekend. That weekend rate is for friday night and for saturday night so you would still be hitting two weekend nights that way-

Re: Weekly versus daily points

Weekends do cost more points with DVC but knowing that going in will allow you to make the right decision for you. Our trips have been about 10 days long the last few years so we bought enough points to cover a 10 day trip. If we move out or pay cash for weekends we could get 2 trips out of our points but if that's not an option we'll get one long trip that included one weekend.

Look at your trip history and buy enough points to cover a similar trip in the room size you need/want. We only need a studio so 200 points gives us a great trip every year or a 2 bedroom every other year.

Have you started to think about your Use Year yet?

Re: Weekly versus daily points

You can really set yourself up well if you can stay 6 nights instead of 7, especially if you only include one Friday or Saturday.

You don't get any added bonus by booking a weekly rate instead of the individual seven nights. The math comes out the same.

Depending on when you travel, your points can actually give you more than one week a year. Travel for 5 or 6 nights at a time and go off-prime season, and you can squeeze in more trips! Wedge yourselves into a smaller roon or a room with a plain view out of the window, and you've got yourself the bargain of a lifetime!

I got ours Monday, it was so exciting and made this seem more real. I'm sure I won't be this excited in the future but for not I loved it.

We usually stay 6 nights, so I will likely be booking Sun-Sat, and only have 1 wkd night, you know?

Oh man am I excited. Can't wait to hear from them on Monday and get the ball rolling. I am pinching myself that I even convinced DH! And that he's excited!

Fizzy, can you deal with a non-preferred view? Because those rooms use a lot less points. For us, hoarding extra points is good! We are stashing them awy for some dream vacation someday, like a BWV 3-bedroom with friends.

Based on our vacationing habits and current needs, I am figuring we will likely do a short trip once a year at a studio, in one of the cheaper seasons just DH and I (4 or 5 days), and likely a longer trip in a bigger villa every few years with family/friends. So we will def be hoarding points too - and I forsee us doing alot of borrowing and banking based on when we will go. Which is perfect for me.

Once our family grows, we will probably add on more points - either more at AKV, or buy a second contract at Contemp when it opens, or something.

I am hoping to join in the next few weeks if all goes as planned. Just waiting on the call back, and a few factors here at home to be confirmed before we take the plunge.

If the timing we plan works out, I think we will take our use year as early as possible/available. I'd love to do a short Sun-Thu trip in October coming up.

I can't get my mind of DVC right now! I can't even focus on Paris, etc!
