Re: DVC Down payment reduced

I think the tax benifit is minimal unless you own a LOT of points and therefore are paying a lot on the taxes end. I wouldn't just buy in for that reason. The main reason we did it was that we xcould come to Disney again and again and stay in the park which is a big part of the decision to by in for me. My husband likes the transportation aspect of it as he doesn't have to drive, it just one less thing to think about.

It isn't lowering the price at all, it is just lowering your downpayment up front. You will actually be paying more because you are financing more. Car salesmen do it all the time.

Re: DVC Down payment reduced

IMO.. I think DVC is great for people who get the pts they need. In my case since its only me that would be paying for this I couldnt only afford 100 pts per month and that would only get me 9 nights per year. IF I were to go ahead and do this I dont think it would ork for me at only 100 pts. I think I can get a value for 15 nights cheaper than I could for 9 nights with DVC

You may be very right. DVC is a good value if you already stay in moderate or Deluxe resorts. It would take you longer to recover the money invested in DVC. We like to stay in deluxe resorts so it's a better value for us.

This is the EXACT reason I am on the fence about buying DVC! We don't mind staying Value at all. But we are renting points to stay at AKV for Thanksgiving week...I'm sure the price I paid for renting the points for only 5 nights, is more than the Annual Dues for the year. I'm still so torn....

I know, us too. We were looking over the point charts last night, and the initial payment, and honestly, we are back on the fence again.

yep, it's the dues that my DH doesn't like, and the fact that they can go up and that points per night can go up...but I really wish we had $10-15K lying around somewhere!

Dues will go up due to the higher costs of running the resort but the number of points per night can't really change. If they raise the number of points for one night they have to lower the points for another night. They can't change the total number of points but they can move them around. I hope I explained it correctly.

So for ex. if the points for SSR on a Mon in Sept are 26 pts, in maybe 5 years they won't go up to, like 28 pts?

They could go up to 28 points but then something else would have to go down 2 points per night to keep the balance. Basically, if you buy 200 points you will still get the same number of nights in 30 years. DVC can't change the total number of points at a resort for the year, however, they can be adjust the pints but it's a give and take. (And I really don' think that has happened a lot over the years.)

Re: DVC Down payment reduced

it is all the same in the end- that savings upfront will end up costing you in the end...although it could be monies pit towards your first trip there as a member... 6 of one 1/2 dozen I say..
