I would have so much trouble booking a resort in a value season. I realize that we are traveling in the first week of December, and the holidays are showcased at Disney during this time of year, but it is considered "value season" after all.

I really wanted to stay at VWL, I called as soon as I was available to and... no go!!!!!!!!! I have tried EVERY OTHER DVC property and I can only get SSR. It is our home resort and we have never stayed there, but we aren't thrilled with it, but I guess as long as it's Disney to kick off the holidays I can deal.

I just never thought booking during value season would be so hard. Even just getting an ADR is absolutely impossible at most of the good restaurants!

Has anyone else experienced this as well?

For those of you that have gone during this time (Weekend after thanksgiving through the first week of December) is it extreamly crowded, will we have long ride waits, etc...?

It used to be that this time of the year was really slow but I think during the past few years it's really picked up. I've never been so I can't speak from experience. I am sure you'll still have a great time! I can't believe it's so hard to get a resort! That's cah-razy.

WLVs are the smallest DVC property, so it's the hardest to get into.

We've stayed at SSR several times and it's a great resort - don't believe all the stuff you read - it's got beautiful grounds, a great pool and one of the best sleeper restaurants at WDW - The Turf Club. And the bus service is probably the best of all the resorts.

We were there last year slightly after Thanksgiving and to be honest the crowds weren't that bad but we had the SAME problem as you... EVERY single DVC resort was filled, except SSR. We noticed a manager in the lobby of SSR and decided to ask him why it seemed like the DVC properties were filled to the gills, but the parks didn't seem crowded. Well, he explained to us that the "value season" has becone one of the BUSIEST DVC seasons because people use less points to stay during that time. He even mentioned that during this time often "resort-wide" the percentage of NON-DVC rooms filled may be a low percentage but the DVC properties are booked!

I guess the logic makes sense.

I agree with Llama, it's our home resort and I used to think it was boring and looked like a cookie-cutter Florida condo park. But let me tell you what, after staying there a couple times & enjoying the AWESOME bus service and loving every meal we've had at Turf Club & their quick service location I've become a SSR fan. The pool is usually pretty quiet, the boat ride to DtD is so relaxing and pretty, and the rooms are so new and fresh. I really do like it there now. Don't be dissapointed if that's all you can get.

It actually makes perfect sense if you think about it...why do you think so many MBers go that week? people on outside, first timers etc head there at the worse times to go...they don't know any better..

That beginning of December time has a lot of things going on. I haven't found the parks to be super busy, but it isn't slow either.

I am trying to go then as well. I did not have much luck either. I am trying to rent points but I am also waiting for the florida rates to come out. Thanks for the warning about ADR's thats not good to here.

We have gone in December twice and have had good luck getting the ADR's we wanted and the crowds haven't been to bad.

We always go around that time of the year and it really seems to be quite slow. I am surprised to hear that you couldn't get the resort you were looking for. If I were you I would keep calling. You never know if someone might cancel.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback, I was starting to get a bit discouraged, and worried but you all settled me down. I am on a waiing list to get into WLV's if anything opens, I am doubtful that will happen, but with the country in such a resession who knows, vacations are usually the first things that people cut!

Wish and llama, thanks for the good news about SSR, I was definately dreading that part. We are bringing our brother and sister in law and want them to love the whole DVC thing so they will buy in as well! I will have to check out the Turf Club menu, never even considered it!

We were going to go this Dec. again and there was nothing...so we are going the first week in Jan. I don't mind SSR but they didn't have that either. So we are booking at 11 months for next yr. at SSR.

December is a very busy time at DVC resorts. What's a slow time at regular resorts isn't always true for DVC resorts.

We've pondered adding more points, but this is our worry.

We love the BCV (our home) and want to be able to book there at the earliest point possible. Adding AKL points will give us more points, but will limit us to the 7 month window if we don't have enough the cover the BCV directly.

We've had no problem booking any trips and I can only imagine the frustration of buying into DVC and not being able to go when you like.

If we add points, we will seriously consider BCV resales, if at all possible.
