I want to talk to someone about DVC...

in November when we are there. Please tell me if they are a high pressure sales. I am not looking anytime soon. Maybe in the next 2 yrs or so. I just want to know all the ends and outs about owning a DVC and what all it entails.I am wondering how long does this take(approx.) to sit through one of these meetings so I can plan my time for it. Do you get any incenties sitting through one of these like other time shares. I really want to join someday but I have to get out of debt first. Thanks

Re: I want to talk to someone about DVC...

I don't think DVC is ever high pressure and I have a wonderful guide who didn't pressure us one bit. I waited several years after first calling her before we bought. I would be happy to pass her name along as would many other DVC memebrs here.. Just ask a few members here about their guides and I'm sure you'll find many to pick from. Then you can call DVC for information before you go and your guide is already set up from that one phone call.

It will take a 2-3 hours from start to finish and you usually get some fastpasses and ice cream when you are done.

Mine was the same---no pressure AT ALL!! We were there 3-4 hrs (DD went to the kids club which she loved and didn't want to leave) but ours took longer since we bought that day (we pretty much knew we wanted to and we'd been looking to own for a couple years now) and we got the fastpasses (3 cards that would allow 3 passes each) and ice cream at the end (and it was GOOD!) and they will pick you up and drop you off where ever to want to go!

Re: I want to talk to someone about DVC...

I have to agree. There's absolutely no pressure whatsoever. Be prepared to take in A LOT of information though. On our first tour we decided to think about it - on our second we bought. Even so, I think the whole process took only about 2 hours. On our first visit (it was 1998) we got vouchers for a free dinner at a Disney restaurant. I know we received something when we bought but I can't remember what it was...

I would love to schedule the tour while we are there! Are there tours at Animal Kingdom Lodge, does anyone know? That's where we are staying. Although we are not ready to buy at the moment, it might get DH more interested.

Ok, Thanks guys. So, am I understanding that I should call before we go to set up an appointment for when we are there? If so, when should I call?

Re: I want to talk to someone about DVC...

I'd say it took about 2 hrs. We went in with the thought of just getting info. We got the fast pass and ice cream thing. No pressure at all. We brought home all the info and talked to our guide EVERYDAY. One day, he called and asked if everything was ok? I said Yeah??? Ohhhh, he was worried cause I didn't call him yesterday. LOL We took about three weeks after we got home to decide. Since then (about 2 yrs) we have gotten one call on if we wanted to buy more points and about 5 calls asking about our upcoming trips. A few while we were still at home and a few while we were at disney. I really like him.

Re: I want to talk to someone about DVC...

We thought it was a little high pressure. The guy who we had wouldn't stop talking and show us the DVC. He kept telling us that this was the best time to buy and if we didn't we would be so sorry. The offer as I did the math was way to much. I figure going to WDW twice a year for 50 years would cost us less than what they wanted over the same period of time. Agree the DVC is closer to the parks but still. The upkeep and cost of money was against the deal.

You don't have to set up a time to meet but you can call and just ask for information. There's a very nice Dreams book that DVC will mail out to you that way you can do a little reading before you go. Once you are there you can set up a tour based on your schedule.

Nope, And I know because I signed up for my open house there since I asked the dvc info person if they had model rooms there and they don't. They only have the models at Saratoga Springs at the preview center (where they hold the open houses)

Re: I want to talk to someone about DVC...

They don't NEED to be high pressure. They are paid salary and commission, and they have a product people actually want.

There is a reason that some of the other places give away stuff...you wouldn't want to give them 2-4 hours otherwise. And they feel like you OWE them for all the goodies they are showering you with.

THERE ARE CONCESSIONS FOR REFERRALS. They are offering developer points for add on contracts for a little while, and I think they offer the same for new purchases as well. Any MB member is free to use me as a referral. Richard Carmichael, Chesapeake VA.

Re: I want to talk to someone about DVC...

When we bought in 2000 it was not a hard sale at all (no high pressure). Like others have said....it's an amazing deal and they don't need to pressure.

We love to stay at deluxe resorts, and with the DVC, we are able to do that every year (sometimes 2 times a year). We have already saved tons of money by being a DVC memeber. For instance, in May we stayed for 12 nights at the Boardwalk (using points). If we paid cash for the trip, the cost would have been over $4200. With that one trip, we already got back 1/4 of what we invested in 2000 (approx $15000: $60/point for 250 points - prices are about $100 a point now). Since 2000, we have taken 11 trips using DVC. So we figure it would have cost over $35K (and that's estimating low since we often use 2 bedroom villas). It is the best investment we've ever made! We look forward to many more vacations (we own until 2042)

We even purchased more points in 2006 (another 50 points, bringing our total to 300 points).

Re: I want to talk to someone about DVC...

I personally never experienced pressure AT ALL! We did our first tour in 2004 and the only thing we ever received was every once in a while mailing with special sales & offers. We didn't join until 2006 so I never felt pressured to make a decision fast at all.
