Re: A bit angry about the RCI acquisition...

PS: was Interval International any different about trading out for DVC resorts? Why wasn't this bothersome when Interval could take our DVC rooms; were they allowed to book at 11 months out?

I don't know much about 'the biz' either so I hope someone REALLY schooled in all that technical DVC stuff gives their opinion 'cause maybe there is something missing here.

I don't mind calling tomorrow & seeing who I can talk with, maybe I will. I want the scoop!
That would be great! Let us know, I may call my guide as well!

Let DVC know how you feel: dvcmembersatisfactionteam@disneyvacationclub.com

I don't think your guide can help you he/she is just a sales person. Send an email and express your feelings, the more members who contact them the better. If we don't speak up they will think we are all happy about the changes.

RCI members can only book DVC rooms if a members trades out to RCI, they are not getting cash rooms. If no one traded out then no RCI members could book a DVC room.

I think you are misunderstanding what I meant. Example (let's pretend my home resort is Beach Club Villas)...

My neighbor is NOT a DVC member, nor an RCI member. He wants to go to WDW and I decide I don't want to go this year. I make a DVC reservation for him, using my points, at 11 months out at the Beach Club 'cause it's my home resort. He pays ME cash for that DVC reservation.

So NOW this NON-dvc member has a DVC villa room booked at 11 months out that you CAN'T get until 7 months out.

I just don't get how that's any different than giving it to an RCI member. And I REALLY do believe that happens more than RCI trade outs.

I don't think that's any different, a non-member is taking a room that a member can't book at 7 months. You used your points, whether it was to book a room at 11 months or traded out and RCI got that room at 11 months, it's the same.

You're probably right, but now that DVC is a "partner of RCI" shouldn't they share the same "conditions" as a DVC member, not better? Yes, I guess I was just not reading slow enough! Sorry!

I don't know the answer to this question. Like I have said, I knew of resorts that we wished to visit someday, but all I really knew was one week one bedroom 160 pt, 1 week, 2 bdrm 270 points and a $95 booking fee.

I checked for the Italian resort(villas) that we had also been looking at, and RCI does not even have a resort available in Italy. I think I am bothered by the 11 months out thing Wish, but I have many other concerns as well.

Re: A bit angry about the RCI acquisition...

I think this thread is making alot of heads spin

We happen to own another timeshare (besides our DVCs) which is Interval International. We have traded three times, but it wasn't always easy to get the week we needed. That's one of the ways I sold my DH on buying DVC

My only beef with RCI or II is this.... We'll use BLT as an example. Let's say I want to get a trade through RCI and I give them my 200 points from BCV. I can understand allowing those points to be used at BCV at the 11 month window. However, am I to understand that those BCV points can be used by a non-member to book BLT at 11 months??? That is completely bizarre! If members have to wait to the 7 month window for non-home resorts how can DVC allow RCI to book any resort at 11 months??

Is this actually the case? Is it in writing?

See, I DON'T know for sure that's the case. After doing some digging on-line it seems like, and I could be understanding this COMPLETELY wrong, but when a DVC member gives up their points to take an RCI week DVC is required to "deposit" a stay at that DVC person's HOME RESORT into the RCI member bank. For instance, let's say I give up my 160 points at SSR. DVC would "deposit" an equivalant stay into the RCI bank; umm, let's say it's listed as "5 nights, SSR, 1-bedroom, Dec 5th-10th" [or whatever a fair equivalant to 160 points would be]. THEN, RCI uses that "available bank" of stays that DVC deposited into their system to book for their own RCI members. FROM WHAT I GATHER, RCI members can choose whatever they want from that available bank of DVC stays, no matter what resort is listed.

With this logic, in essence, if you give up 160 points at Beach Club as a DVC member & DVC 'deposits' that stay into the "Available Bank" on RCI then yes, any RCI member could scoop up that reservation as soon as it becomes available; BLT, AKV, WLV, whatever, etc...

Once again, this is only from information I found randomly on-line, not sure if it's 100% correct.

Re: A bit angry about the RCI acquisition...

I'm sorry, that was probably a little confusing... do you know what I mean?

When you give up "DVC points" they are translated into a PHYSICAL stay at your HOME resort available to RCI members. It's not like at 11 months out DVC is saying "Hey RCI members, here are 160 points that someone gave up, use 'em wherever you want." From what I understand, your traded points become a concrete reservation at your HOME RESORT available to RCI members.

Make sense?

That sounds much more feasible- I can't imagine the first case being true.
