Re: No more free valet parking for DVC members

I wrote an e-mail, it didn't take more than 5 minutes. If enough people write and speak out hopefully they'll listen. Pass the word on other Disney forums you may visit, or to other members you know.

Re: No more free valet parking for DVC members

If I were a DVC member, I would be upset about this new change. It doesn't matter why you joined DVC, but it does matter that they took this 'perk' away. You guys pay a lot for DVC membership and maintenance fees, and if I were a member I would expect free parking to be part of the membership. Just my two cents.

Re: No more free valet parking for DVC members

I have a totally different way of looking at DVC, and if you want to cyber-smack me after you read this, so be it.

We bought DVC for the luxury of the rooms, the location of the resorts AND the perks.

It sounds snobby, but we do not enjoy cramming our family into a single room, we do not enjoy food court meals, we do not enjoy thin rooms walls. We like the pool to be staffed with people who will bring us cocktails, we like cookies in teh lobby at night, and we especially love the expansive, gorgeous lobbies filled with fresh flowers, huge comfortable sofas and extraordinary details. I slave away in my little hovel of a home all the time, so if we are going on vacation, we all want luxury! LUXURY!!!

In order to be able to afford that without guilt, it means going DVC. For the rooms, the resorts and the PERKS. I want to be coddled on vacation. If I could have someone walk beside me and carry my purse as I stroll in the parks, I would do it!

DVC resorts are very, very luxurious. The room size is a huge benefit, along with the kitchen, the living room and the extra bath if you get the 2-br, not to mention in-room laundry.

Valet parking was an enormous perk for us. We used it constantly and enjoyed every single minute of it. This is a total bummer, and I am in the "bait-and-switch" group on this topic.

We took a vacation a zillion years ago, paid out of pocket for a BWV room. I think we are still paying that one off. Never again. It's DVC or nothing. But now, DVC is becoming quite expensive, nickel by nickel...

I totally want someone to carry around my purse and camera bag for me!!

Write an e-mail MissDis, I hope everyone does!!! Heck, I even want PROSPECTIVE members to write in and say "hey, I am very close to joining DVC but if these little perks keep being taken away I may think twice."

if i could afford it right now and joined.... these would be my words exactly!!!! yeah room discount is great and the perks of a really nice room, but that is only part of the experience. heck you could get a timeshare off property that is probably just as nice for the same price. but the "extras" are what make it worth it. and if they take said extras away well then, what's the appeal?

Re: No more free valet parking for DVC members

Ok, so I have a had a day or so to sit on this and the frustration level has not decreased.

We bought DVC three years ago, and this vacation "technically" pays it off! However, over the past three years I have become increasingly disapointed with how the members have been treated. We changed from being able to exchange with Interval to RCI (in my opinion and complete 180'), I realized when we bought we wouldn't get housekeeping everyday, but I end up thinking this really stinks. I have seen free dining offered every year and cannot be able to partake in it unless I don't use the points I am already paying for and use cash, and now this! I think it all is beginning to get crummy!

We DVCer's are Disney Fans. We are the biggest Disney supporters out there, and I feel like they could care less as long as we have made that initial investment!!!

Now, I did NOT buy DVC for the perks, I have three children and we knew we would be going to Disney quite often so DVC made sense, the perks were a wonderful add on, however as I said before, when the partnering with RCI happened. A huge sale point for us was that we could return to the Atlantis because there were exchange possibilities. With that being gone... UGGGGGHHHHHH!

And how about this....In April I tried booking a reservation for the Richard Petty Driving School for a friend, they said I could use my DVC discount of 10%, so I booked it. My friend contacted them to see what she would get as a AAA member and they gave her 20%, I was totally embarrassed! How could a Disney attraction offer a AAA member a better discount than they offer a DISNEY Vaction Club Member? THIS MAKES ABSOLUTELY NOOOOOO SENSE!!! What perks do we actually enjoy? The only one that seems worthy is the Annual Pass discount. I wonder how long before that is gone as well!!!

I am very upset about this valet thing. We ALWAYS have a car when we are at WDW, it is 100% easier when traveling with children and the valet thing was terrific. We are leaving for our trip on Saturday and I was not counting on this extra money to be going out, and I think it stinks! If it is not removed from the DVC website when we leave on Saturday I will make a HUGE stink about it!!!! I have every intention of sending an email, I just wish I would make a difference.

DH and don't even want to recommend DVC membership to our friends and family right now. We do love going, and for us, we couldn't be happier with the accommodations. I personnaly would not like staying everytime I go in a value, I enjoy the "home away from home" aspect, but I feel that we are treated as second class citizens and I would think after making a huge financial investment in a company I would be treated extra special. Doesn't seem to be happening!!!

exactly!

Thank you MissDis for your honest post. I suspect that's the case with the overwhelming majority that buys into DVC.

Re: No more free valet parking for DVC members

I would like to know if when parking your car yourself, do you pay a nightly fee as well or would that be free?

We've never had a car at WDW rental or otherwise, so I do not know.

As a DVC member, I agre 100%. When we joined, we didn't expect perks and negative changes to happen in the manner in which they are(no notice). If the only perk is a "Welcome Home" on arrival, (which by the way does not happen every time either!) then in my opinion, DVC is not living up to the standards we expect and pay for. I would say most of us felt special being members, but if they take any more away, I don't see what there is to feel special about. If all I wanted was a great room, I would have spent my money on stays at the Grand Floridian. In my opinion, and others from what I am reading, DVC should maintain the standards of Disney better than what they are doing. I am not at buyers regret but I do know when I am getting less than I was told.
