Who here owns DVC?

We are trying to decide whether this would be a good decision for us to join.

Who is a member and what has your xperience been?

Thanks.

We have been members, for about 5 years now. We own at Old Key West, and haven't regreted spending the money once.

To sum up our experience, it has allowed our family of 7 to vacation regularly at Walt Disney World, and to stay in one nice room all together. We don't have to think about where the money is going to come from to pay for our room, we just worry about passes and food.

If you think you will be a regular visitor for years to come (even once every three years will work), you should at least look into it.

Thanks Mickey. We go to Disney alot, although this was my first long term trip - I used to spend maybe 2-3 days and that was a longer trip for me.

Now with a child, we were thinking that longer less rushed trips might be a better way to go. Plus, they have a discount on SSR purchases that make it cost about the same as some of the resales.

Trying to decide soon.

We have been a members since 2001, we own at OKW. We have made three trips since becoming members, and have no regrets. On one trip we were able to invite my inlaws, and get them their own room, we could have not done it otherwise. We love it, and are looking forward to going home in December.

GO FOR IT!

We have been members at OKW since 1993 and have loved every minute of it. Our leftover points have allowed us to stay at the Grand Californian at Disneyland, which we normally would not have done. We have taken friends and family with us many many times to WDW, and have stayed in everything from studios for the different families to the Grand Villa on our last trip (boy that was nice!) My point is that the flexibility of the point system is wonderful, and we have never regretted our purchase.:)

MickeyMamma, I own at BCV since 2002. I have had the good fortune to stay at OKW a couple of times. I have not yet actually stayed at my home resort. (I do love to be greeted with "Welcome Home!" when I stay at DVC.)

There is lots of info "out there" RE: DVC ownership. This is an older post on this board that offers some assistance. In addition, other places you may want to investigate to help you with your decision:

MousePlanet.com especially this particular link

DisBoards.com (esp. the Disney Vacation Club Forums)

and TIMESHARE USERS GROUP (TUG) (I think that brumcg is a member, but I am not sure.)

We bought into VWL in 2002. Being West Coasters you would think that it might not be worth it but it has worked out great. We spent 4 nights at DL at the Grand Californian using our points and this week it's Hilton Head w/o the kids! We plan on going back to DL in a few months and next Oct it's a week at our home resort with my sister and her family who has never been before and wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise. Plus, we are already talking 7 day cruise in 2006. I think we are getting our monies worth!

Jen, you will love Hilton Head. We just got back a couple of weeks ago and loved it. Make sure you eat at Truffles, it was to die for.

Who here owns DVC?

I have been a member since 2001 and feel that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
I never used to plan vacations and, consequently, very rarely went on vacation. With DVC, I have been planning and taking at least 2 trips a year to DVC resorts.
On 10/24, 13 of us, including my 2, 3 and 4 year old grandchildren will be staying at OKW. We have 3 1 bedroom villas and a 2 bedroom villa. I could never have afforded to do that without DVC.

Like so many members, I wish that I had joined sooner!

We have been members since 12/2000 and the only regret is that we wish we would have done it sooner! Now we have a BEAUTIFUL selection of resorts to go to all across the world. We have stayed at our home resort (OKW) once and Wilderness Lodge. We've also gone to the Keystone Resort in Keystone Colorado, which was also awesome! We will be heading to Old Key West in March with my sister (A Goofy Family).

In May, we took our parents to the Wilderness Lodge for 9 nights/8 days and we would have never been able to do that without the DVC!!

WE LOVE IT!!

We have been members since 1993 and usually stay at our home resort of OKW. We have also stayed at Boardwalk and Hilton Head. There has not been one moment of regret in our purchase and as many have already said, we couldn't have done it without DVC.

Wow! Thanks for all the great responses. I did stumble across the stuff on Mouseplanet and I am also avidly reading the DIS site with their very active DVC section.

I am learning alot. With the current discount, it looks like buying direct at SSR may be the best way to go for us. That extra 12 years sounds really good.

In the meantime, keep the comments coming. They are really helpful!

MickeyMamma, don't forget there are sites that offer Disney Vacation Club at a discounted rate (as low as $60 per point)...Mickey pointed this out to me and we are considering it in the next year too....although we own 2 weeks of timeshare somewhere else already...

We've been member since 2000 and have never regretted it! Our home resort is Vero Beach, although we've never stayed there yet.

You can also gain access to DVC resorts by becoming a member of Interval International. Disney is a member of this timeshare company as well. We had this membership long before our DVC membership and now we use both to double our points at WDW. This January we are staying a week at OKW with our Interval membership and a week at Beach Club Villas with the DVC.

There is absolutely no way we could afford this without a DVC or Interval membership.
