Can I talk her into it?

Yeah, I'm still around. I know I haven't posted in a while, but I do check the posts at least weekly. For all you old-time DCers, you may remember that DW likes, but doesn't love, WDW. Well, I think I might finally be getting to the point where she'll consider buying DVC, as long as it's only enough points to go every 3 yrs. or so. Now, we're not in the room much, so we only need 50-60 points for a studio or a one-br, depending on the season. Has anyone out there bought less than 150 pts. through a reseller?
Also, please post your feelings about whether or not she'll regret "giving in " as she'll be reading these posts.

Welcome back wdwjeff, I think we put an APB out on you and a few others a few weeks back.

What could be better than owning a piece of the magic? I am also thinking about buying DVC with the thought of going every 2-3 years. I was thinking 75 points would be about right for us. I can't wait to read the replies you get.

We bought in December of 2000 and our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner!

Tell your wife that there is MORE to DVC than Disney. (Oh my gosh....I can't believe I just said that!!)

With DVC, you can go so many places, including ski resorts, cruises, bed and breakfasts, etc. all over the US (and overseas) just by picking up the phone to DVC and they do the rest!

When we went to Keystone Resort in Colorado, they made it so easy...all I had to do was call the DVC 800#, tell them when and where, and within 24 hours they called me back and booked it!

For Non-Disney Resorts (aka "the conceirge collection"), DVC does charge a one time $75 fee, but well worth it in my opinion.

We stayed in late June of 2001 and had a BEAUTIFUL (Not Disney, but Disney quality) 2 bedroom condo for seven nights (4 adults, 2 kids) and it "cost" us 147 point.

So if you purchase into Saratoga Springs, for the next 50 years, you can enjoy a wonderful vacation EVERY Year.....Disney World or Not!!!

I was looking into buying DVC for a little while and I was informed that you cannot belong to the Vacation Club with less than 150 points....I don't know how accurate this info is, though....

I think that 150 points is the minimum - but we've been members for quite a while, so maybe this has changed. We've never regretted our decision to buy. One of the best things is the convenience. Simple things like: you don't have to pack as many clothes, you have a washer and dryer, you don't need to eat every meal out. You have more room. If you want to put small children to bed early, there's separate bedrooms. You're not locked into only Disney properties, you have an opportunity to stay at some of the most beautiful resorts in the world through their Concierge Program and also through Interval International. We have stayed in Europe - England, Austria, Germany and through the Carribbean and can honestly say that we've never had a problem with any accomodations. You also can use your points for the Disney Cruise Line. But the best thing - THE VERY BEST THING - is turning into one of the DVC properties at WDW and seeing that sign "Welcome Home"! It just says it all!

Wdwjeff, I can tell you that I couldn't even convince myself completely until I changed my perspective on DVC membership. We just bought at SSR.

I now look at ownership as sort of the difference between buying a house and renting an apartment. I can use my DVC membership for 10 years and have some "value" left that I can sell if I choose. This is sort of like buying a house that actually depreciates slightly. If I go to WDW and stay in a moderate hotel for 10 years, in the end all I have is my memories. This is sort of like renting an apartment.

Once I got this financial part straight in my head (and my DW :D ), the rest was easy.

Hope this helps.

Well, I did it, sort of. I made a lowball bid on 60 pts. at Vero Beach, figuring it was a starting point for negotiations. Much to my surprise, the bid was accepted! Now, I'm holding my breath hoping Disney doesn't exercise their right of first refusal. FYI, llama and iluvwdw, I asked the real estate agent about the points issue. There is only a 150 pt. minimum if you buy through Disney. If you buy a resale, you can buy as many or as few points as you like, and you still become a DVC member. Wish me luck, y'all, and I'll keep you posted. Does anyone know how long the process takes once a bid has been accepted? Just curious. :)

Congrats!

Any particular argument that you used to convince your DW? I can always use any advice that I can get whether it's for DVC or not!

Well, it so happens that next Sept. is our 15th anniversary. If the deal goes through, we'll have 120 pts. we can use on an anniversary vacation, and it doesn't have to be at WDW(pretend I didn't say that). Telling her that sure didn't hurt:p :)

P.S. I just got off the phone with the realtor, and here's how the process works. Once a bid is accepted, the paperwork takes about 4 days, from both buyer and seller. Then, Disney has 30 days in which to exercise its right of first refusal. Then, about another 30 days for title search, etc., then closing, then it's mine!:heart :)

If you wife still has doubts Jeff, just tell her to take a look at the thread posted by WDWnutcase on the Disney Concierge Collection. That should definitely seal the deal.
