Hello,

Has anyone ever "rented" points from a DVC member before - how does it work and was it a good experience??

Thanks

Please keep arms and legs in the ride vehicle, please hold on to the handrails if you are standing because we are moving to the front.

Just bumping this up for you in hopes someone out there can help you.

Welcome to DisneyCentral, I hope you find all the help you need and share what you know with us.

I haven't rented (I am an owner, and have traded OUT some of my points to another owner), but here is how I've heard it works:

You make the arrangements with the DVC owner and they make the reservations using their points, but in your name. Usually they expect a down payment before doing this, then the remainder within 30 days or so. However, after just your downpayment, they should send you a copy of the confirmed reservation so you can see they did make it.

Hope this helps!

I've also seen people auction their points on Ebay. Usually it's a good deal! Just go to the main site and look up Disney Vacaton Club.

I am a DVC owner as well, and have rented out point to others. We as owners, have to use or loose our points. Renting them out is not a bad option to cover annual fees, etc.

Expect to pay between $10 and $11 per point. Some owners may be desperate, so you may pay less. Remember that there may not be availability when you want to go, and some times of the year are more expensive than others, and Friday and Saturday nights are as much as all 5 weekdays combined, so if you can stay away from weekend nights, your trip will be much cheaper.

If you want an idea of how many points you will need, let us know where you want to go, where you want to stay and for how long.

here is what we are thinking..

we considered going in 2004 2 days after thanksgiving when we hope the traffic will be slightly less for 7 days. we want to go when we can see teh xmas decorations. there are 5 of us going ages will be 8,5, and 2 so from what i have heard you need to get a room that has room for 6 or more people. i really kinda thought the 2 year old could share bed with siblings or else us, so then i would only need space for 4 people. any how i really am kinda open as to were to stay we kinda were leaning toward wildrenss simply cause it is close to MK and when we stayed at wildreness lodge a few years ago it was really nice , but we are open to new things as well. thanks for any ideas or info you may have! --- steph:)

Checking in on 11/27, which is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the rates are as follows:

Old Key West:
1 bedroom villa: 165
2 bedroom villa: 224

Beach Club/Wilderness Lodge/Boardwalk Villas:
1 bedroom villa: 206
2 bedroom villa: 275

The rates above are the number of points that will be required for you to stay 7 nights. You should be fine in a one bedroom, though Disney often will count your 2 year old, and will make you get a 2 bedroom. We have had 5 in a 1 bedroom before, and hasn't been a problem.

The studio and one bedroom villas at the DVC locations can accomodate 4 adults and 1 child under three so you'll be maybe a little cramped in a studio but still good. They are less pts than a one bedroom villa but with the one bedroom at least you will get some privacy and the convenience of a full kitchen and 2 bathrooms.:)
