Borrowing Points

My DH and I went and looked into DVC a few weeks ago. We were told that you could borrow or bank points from year to year. My question is ~ Is there a limit on what you can borrow?

I'm thinking if there isn't a limit it would be silly to get more than 150 points a year since I can borrow points from the next few years. In the long run we would run out of points before the 50 years are up but so what. Who knows if we will even be alive in 50 years and why not enjoy it while you can. Am I thinking right on this?

From what I understand (I am not a member) you can only borrow points from the next year.

You could bank this years points (150 if that is what you buy), use next years points(if the ressie is in your next use year) and borrow the points from the year after, so theoritically you could have 450 points available for the one trip. However, if you are like me, you use your points up every year, and so have little available! We ended up adding points!

You can bank a year's points for use the following year. You can borrow the points from one year ahead. So you can conceivably use 3 year's points during one year. For example, in 2003 you banked your points. In 2004, you can book a vacation using your 2003 banked points, your current 2004 points, and borrow your 2005 points.

DisneyTeacher is correct you can only borrow points from your next year’s points.
If you own 150 points you could potentially use 450 points in a single year by banking your previous years points, and borrow next years points (150+150+150=450).

Yep

That's how it works. You can bank a year, go on vacation the next year and borrow the points from the year after that. Just be ready not to go on vacation in the year that you borrowed from. Lots of planning!

We have 350 points, 108 of which we have left to use until October. We're not sure if we're going to finish them out this year or bank them for the next. Hmmmm...Decisions decisions!

So you can only borrow a year in advance so my theory doesn't work. Our rep made it sound like you could borrow as much as you needed but I thought would be too good to be true.

Thanks for the info!

Still

Even though you can only borrow one year in advance, the Vaction Club is a much better choice over paying to stay in hotels year after year after year. It's too bad that we didn't buy into it when we first started going to Disney as a couple whe we were dating six years ago. Because with the money we've spent on hotel accomodations over the past ten trips, we could have 3/4 of our Vaction Club loan paid off!
