Dvc?

This is my first post so bear with me. I look at this board all the time and have learned alot. I have a question about DVC? We go to DW every year with our family. Were are very luck and go for free. Eventually we will have to pay for it but im not sure when that will happen. We go on one vaction we pay for ourselves. I was wondering would it be a good deal to join DVC and use it for other vactions (skiing, etc) or maybe another trip to disney. If we were paying for going each year I would for sure join DVC. Is it better to join early or should I wait until we pay for it ourselves? Sorry this is so long. Thanks

Hi and welcome to DC!

Joining DVC is a personal question, and only you can answer it. The additional cost of DVC (besides the orginal price) is the annual dues. This pays for upkeep. You need to factor in
A)how often you go
B)Where you stay and how much you pay
C) Would you use your points for somewhere else.
D) Divide your purchase price + upkeep over the years by the number of years, and that is the number you need to work with.

Is that number too high or just right?

Personally, we joined many years ago (when they were giving out free tickets to the parks until the year 2000), and have more than gotten our purchase price out of the deal. We have ony stayed in one other place using our points, and that was the Grand Californian. There were no problems whatsoever using our points to stay there. We have also taken many friends and family to stay in our home resort, and it has worked out great each time.

Let me know if you have any questions!

So once you pay off the original amount do you just pay the annual dues?

Yes. The annual dues are the taxes and upkeep per year. There are websites that are for resales also. That might be an avenue you would want to pursue. I think the timeshare store has a disney section.

Good Luck!

Yes,

Purchasing the DVC is a personal thing based on your personal vacation schedule. What you really need to do is sit down with one of the DVC reps and talk sincerely about your vacation goals and what not.

My husband and I bought 350 points last year and we've used them 3 times and have 108 left to use by October if we don't bank them. Only one of these three times was it for Disney. They other two times was for two separate trips to NYC where we stayed at the Shelburne Murray Hotel. We are loving our decision to do the DVC thing!
