Somebody Help....

Now that my husband and I are DVC members and have thoroughly enjoyed our very first DVC vacay at WDW, I would like to plan a trip for my family to go, (mom, dad, big brother and sis in law) and stay compliments of our DVC points. Sadly, when I mentioned this to my dad he harumphed and said "I've been to WDW three times. I don't want to go to Florida again. I'd rather go to Nashville." Any suggestions to help on the convincing? I keep telling him he doesn't have to do park stuff, that he and my mom can bugger off and do whatever they like and that the idea is that we all be on vaction together, but he just keeps shrugging his shoulders and resisting. *sigh* :nervous

Is your mom in favor of the plans? Everyone else? Sometimes there's no amount of talking that will convince an "anti-WDW" person. If everyone else is in favor of it, maybe you can make the plans and tell him he is welcome to join all of you. Maybe he will come around rather than stay home alone.

How about you book several days at Vero Beach, for all of you, then your parents stay at vero beach while the rest of the family scoot over to WDW (2 hours away) for a couple of days.

Hi from Old Key West. This year we had the good fortune to have two full weeks at WDW and have found that we don't even want to go to the parks every day. If you want to get your father back, I would strongly suggest renting a car, so that he doesn't feel that he is tied to the parks. Perhaps a visit to the Space Centre or Vero Beach. Does he golf. Emphasize that part of the trip is just the pleasure of staying in a beautiful Disney resort, but that he doesn't have to trek through the parks every day. Just a stroll around OKW, and reading by the pool is a pleasure. BTW, we spent our first week at BCV and our second at OKW. IMHO there is NO comparison. OKW suites (1 bedroom) must be at least 1/3 bigger and it is obvious that Disney has cut corners in their new villas. Don't get me wrong, BCV was very nice, but the space, quality and ambiance of OKW far surpasses BCV. And OKW is less points too.

That's what I keep telling him: "You don't have to go to the parks. You and mom can tool around Orlando. Do whatever you like." He's not anti WDW. He loves it. He just isn't into going to Florida. He would liket o go to...*gulp*....Nashville. Yeesh.

What does Nashville have that makes it so much more appealing than Florida? Give me the choice and I would go to Disney, as would any of us here at DC I'm sure. I know this sounds a little harsh, but I would say that since you are offering to use your DVC points for the lodging that it is WDW or nothing else. If he really wants to go to Nashville, he is going to have to pay for the lodging. He should be grateful that you want to give back to your parents buy taking them on a trip. Never look a gift horse in the mouth. I am sorry if I have offended anyone with my views, but this is what I would do were I in the same position.

You know...

I don't quite think he understands DVC. I haven't thoroughly explained it to him. :-) I told him he wouldn't have to pay for lodging, but I don't quite think he grasped the concept...

Tell him that you will send post cards while you and the rest of your family enjoy YOUR vacation. At least that's what I would tell my dad...yours sounds a little like mine...but we have a blunt relationship!

what about booking a trip to DL instead? That would be something out of the ordinary but still disney!

The vero beach idea works also--or how about sending him on a couple of days using your points to Nashville, and then he meets you in orlando?
