Okw Pool Slide!

In the latest DVC Vacation Magic Community News (Spring 2004) they had a tidbit of info and a rendering of the new slide for OKW (see attached). The article basically said that OKW was adding a pool slide enhancement, and they plan to break ground this spring. Their goal is to have it installed by the end of the year. This will be a great asset to OKW.

I saw this as well. This was my one big complaint about OKW, the pool area. I hope it will be similar to the new slides at AKL and the Poly, they are nice, and it looks like it will be similar.

Any thoughts whether this will be done by mid-October? If it will not be done, do you think that it will result in one of the pools being closed during that time? SHould I be worried about this?

Stan

My guess is that it will not be done by October, and yes, the main pool will be closed. Really, it isn't a big deal. The main pool used to be like a normal swimming pool. There are some very nice quiet pools around the resort, you can use those.

Maybe if you are lucky, it will be done by then, and you can let me know how it is.

I would have to agree with Mickey I doubt it will be finished by mid Oct., and I would assume that they will have to close the pool at some point, but I can not imagine that it will be closed during the entire construction project. Also note that SSR will be a boat ride away and I will be surprised if OKW does not offer any pool hopping arrangements with SSR during any OKW pool closures. If you are a DVC member you have that option anyway. I would not be worried. I will be in WDW in June, and I will try to get some construction photos if it has started.

Thanks everyone! We are actually planning on staying at OKW for our 1st family DVC adventure. We need two studios for 10 nights so we are trying to stretch a few points by staying at OKW. Also, Mickey has always been very positive on OKW and to be honest, he's been right on everything else!!

skaw.... I also read somewhere that the slide will be under construction in October and the main pool may be closed.

I think they are talking about letting you pool hop to other locations and will suggest that you pool hop over at DVC's new SSR Resort, which is a short drive down the road. :hmmm

Update from April Member Clubhouse Latest News:

Slide construction at Disney's Old Key West Resort
Construction on the new themed pool slide for Disney's Old Key West Resort is currently estimated to begin in September, and not in the spring as previously announced. Work is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2004. During construction of the slide, the pool will have to be closed. However, our Members and Guests are welcome to enjoy the resort's three other pools. Look for more details later this summer in Member Clubhouse and on the Member web site.

Re: Okw Pool Slide!

I think the addition of a slide will be a major plus. My kids just love the slide at SAB and they will love this one at OKW.

Re: Okw Pool Slide!

The high rock springs pool at SSR is supposed to be really nice as is the slide. You might try hopping over there. it also is 0 entrance, so there are no stairs. If you are a DVC member check it out on the website. Since you won't be far from there, it might be a good idea.

Re: Okw Pool Slide!

I have just changed to OKW form the cabins. My family was looking at the pools at the cabins and was not that empressed (no kids just adults) We will be there Sept 13- 18. Will the main pool be closed then? how are the other pools. The sanuna and hot tub will still be opened right. Also i have seen that the pool closes at 10 pm is that every night? Is it open anytime later.
Also can anyone tell me if I mad the right move changing from the cabins to OKW? It is costing us about 100.00 more per person. this is all our 1st trip to WDW.

Re: Okw Pool Slide!

The main pool at OKW is scheduled to be closed until Oct., but I believe that they will let you pool hop over to saratoga Springs. You can get there by boat. The other pools are quiet pools, just like the other resorts have, but they do not have any slides, etc. They are fixing up the OKW pool because OKW is the oldest DVC resort and that pool did not have a slide and the main pool was just like a quiet pool. I am not sure if the sauna and hot tub are closed as well. You may want to call the resort or reservations and ask them. The main pools at the resorts close when the lifeguards are off duty. At POR, it was 12am every night; however, the quiet pools do not have lifeguards and are open all the time. It is that way at all the resorts, I believe.

Re: Okw Pool Slide!

There are no indoor pools. All the pools are heated though.
