DVC - Outside of Disney

Hello,
I used to be active on this list (not very active, but a little) at the end of 2002 when i was preparing to go on my college progam. Well, I'm now a full time Cast Member at Port Orleans on the front desk. And now, on to my post...
Since I'm only 21 I'd never really thought of time shares or vacations clubs. I've heard people at work discussing it a good bit and I was checking out the DVC place at the Boardwalk however and now it's got my attention. Not so much for the DVC resorts, but the traveling abroad. Does anyone here travel to other cities or countries on their points? There are so many places I've always wanted to go, and the World Passport seems to cover so many of those places.
Do you think it would be worth if for me? I'd love to travel the world in the next 10 years or so, before I settle down. Does it cost more to do the "collections"? Do I still have to have a Disney 'home'? Would it be better to buy directly from DVC or resale?? I'm very curious!!

Sorry I can't answer your questions. I just wanted to welcome you back to DC. I remember you from when you were here before, I have thought about you several times and wondered how you were doing with the CP. I guess since you are still working at WDW it must have went very well!!

Re: DVC - Outside of Disney

Hey there! We've missed you!

DVC has been a great investment for our family. We bought in December of 2000 and our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner!

With DVC, you can go so many places, including ski resorts, cruises, bed and breakfasts, etc. all over the US (and overseas) just by picking up the phone to DVC and they do the rest!

When we went to Keystone Resort in Colorado, they made it so easy...all I had to do was call the DVC 800#, tell them when and where, and within 24 hours they called me back and booked it! We used 147 points (in June 2001) for a HUGE 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo in a BEAUTIFUL area of Keystone called River Run (go to www.keystoneresort.com) Disney charges $75 to arrange everything, which doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

We can stay 7 nights at OKW for 98 points (in May and early June) and we own 150 points....that's one week a year at WDW and left over points for a weekend getaway or a few days a Vero Beach, etc.

Here are several other threads that pertain to DVC ownership....and there are more here at DC as well.
