Toy, game store to open at Disney

Toys, games and collectibles will fill the shelves of Once Upon a Toy, a playful new store that opens today at Walt Disney World Resort.

Located at Downtown Disney Marketplace, the store offers five themed rooms that add up to 16,000 square feet of retail playground.

New toys from Disney and Hasbro include:

* A Mr. Potato Head with Disney theme park accessories such as Mickey Mouse ears, a character autograph book, a Mickey balloon, a sorcerer's hat and a teacup vehicle from Disney's Mad Tea Party attraction.

* Disney theme park editions of Monopoly and Candy Land, and a new version of the classic detective game Clue set inside Disney's Haunted Mansion attraction.

* Star Tours action figures from the "Star Wars"-inspired attraction.

* Play-Doh sets based on Disney's It's a Small World and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin attractions.

* A miniature version of Disney's Wilderness Lodge resort hotel made from Lincoln Logs.

Inside, the store is bursting with whimsical touches and kinetic displays, including a ceiling-mounted spinner from The Game of Life, a rotating conveyor bearing dozens of toys and games, and a child-size version of the Walt Disney World Railroad that travels a winding track suspended from the ceiling.

Once Upon a Toy is the first retail location at Disney to feature touch-screen terminals that allow shoppers to have their purchases delivered for free to their Disney hotel or shipped for a fee to any address.

The Downtown Disney area is a 120-acre shopping, dining and entertainment complex that includes the Marketplace, Pleasure Island and the West Side.

I think I also read that they'll have an exclusive "WDW only" doll collection there, as well. Sounds like a neat place, and it gives everyone another reason to go back( as if we needed one).:D :)

I would Love to have "The Mr. Potato Head" with Mickey Mouse accessories, and the Lincoln logs of the Wilderness lodge. I could stay in that shop for hours. I Love toy stores and this sounds like the Ultimate Toy Shop:)

Where abouts in DTD is this located? What did it replace? Did it replace Legoland? Just curious. There wasn't much room over there last time we visited, so I am guessing that it is not a new building per se but replaced something else. Smallworld

As lvbug has said, this place is AWESOME.

It did not replace the Lego store but I can't remember what was there before this new store. :D It is located by the small grocery store/candy shop and the shooting water area where the kids can get wet. If you picture DD Marketplace like the letter V, it is located at the bottom of the V.
(I need to scan this map in to make it easier :) )

DW got to stuff 10 lbs of Potato Head stuff into a 5 lb box. She must have gotten every possible accessory into it because the CM made it a point to tell her to stuff the inside of Potato Head as well. Not back for like $12.50. I got to stuff a Lincoln Log box full of log pieces for the same price. DW also picked up part of my birthday present there, every new ride vehicle (die cast) that I did not get on my last trip. Unfortunately, I can not find a lace home to display all these rides. Time to make my two sons share the same room so I can take over one of the rooms.

We did ask about the discounts (AAA, DC, Amex White Glove, AP) and they do not offer any at this time.

This place sounds Terrific!!! Stormalong, what did you mean by stuff 10lbs of potato Head stuff in a box..do you get to pick out the accessory to go with the potato head? And if you do, what kinds of accesorries do they have? I love Mr. Potato Head, I can't wait to see that.

That is correct. They have a circular table that has many tall bins containing all kinds of accessories. There are many Disney related ones like an autogragh book, Mickey Mouse ice cream bar, mouse ears, Sorcerer Mickey hat, video camera, Mickey Mouse sunglasses, balloons, Tea Cup (for the feet), etc. as well as standard items like eyes, ears, mouth....She must have stuffed 90% of all the choices. You can also design your head using the many computer screens at the table. There, you can configure your "head" with those same items and see how it looks. You can also print them out.

Basically, you take an empty Potato Head box and stuff as much as you can fit inside as long as it closes. The CM told my wife to stuff the inside of Mr. Head as well to fit WAY more. If I can find a picture somewhere, I'll post the link in here.

The same is done with the Lincoln Logs. As long as the box closes, you get whatever fits.

This place sounds like the "build a bear" workshops that we have a the local malls here. Have you heard of those? You go in and choose a bear (they also have some other types of animals) take it to have it stuffed and sewn and then choose all kinds of outfits for it. Smallworld
