So, you have the crowds and the cost against you. Would you visit?

Re: Would you visit WDW between Christmas and New Years?

If I could afford to go, I definitely would because I am a teacher and I have off from work at that time and the kids are home from school to so no one would have to miss school . We did this once when the kids were little and it was so much fun, and I honestly didn't think the crowds were all that bad. Airfare prices are brutal for that time of the year, though, which is a big stumbling block for us budget wise.

Re: Would you visit WDW between Christmas and New Years?

I'd visit WDW anytime I could. For us, it's a 700 mile drive, so I have to work it around vacations and holiday periods. Yes, it's crowded, but so is July and August. Christmas time is cooler. Plan accordingly. If you feel like you must do the world in 3 days, stay home. If you can go and relax, it'll still ba a vacation!

Re: Would you visit WDW between Christmas and New Years?

Our dream of dreams is to do a month-long Disney extravaganza. We'd like to start at Disney Land, go on a cruise, to Disney World, then to Vero Beach for a few days. I'd like nothing better than to leave after the Thanks Giving holiday and come back after the new year starts.

Re: Would you visit WDW between Christmas and New Years?

We've been a couple of times after Christmass and have stayed until after New year...for us this is the best time to go to WDW. Not even higher prices or long lines would take the magic away from Christmass at Disney.

YES YES YES .. Even with the larger crowds and cooler weather and higher prices...it is the best time of the year for disney. And the decorations add to the magic.

Re: Would you visit WDW between Christmas and New Years?

Not too burst your bubble, but I did that last year and I am not sure I would do it again. We took a vacation to Disney from Dec 19 - Jan 1. We did the cruise first and stayed at the Wilderness Lodge second. The cruise was fabulous. Highly recommend a holiday cruise. The boat was decorated beautifully.

The wilderness lodge was well decorated and we even got a stocking on our door on Christmas from Mickey. However, the parks wre horrendous. It took us 45 minutes to walk up main street to the castle. The CMs were tired from being overworked. The lines were terrible. It was an hour wait even for Its a Small World. The guests were plain rude. We went earl on CHristmas Day to see the parade and people were pushing and said wheel chair people should bot be allowed in the front row and tried to move them. A CM had to intervene.

We had some people from England, after walking up 10 minutes before the parade, tell us we should squish together and put our daughter in our lap after waiting an hour and a half for the parade to begin in our seats. We politely explained that we had been waiting for over an hour in these seats and we wanted to be comfortable. They made a scene and started yelling at us.

We found the stress levels are much higher around Christmas for both the CMs and the guests. To be fair, we usually do travel off season, but I was not prepared for what happened. Especially after they closed the park on Christmas Eve and Chriatmas because it was full to capacity. We had a dinner resevation at Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner and we were told if we left the park, we would not be let back in even with those reservations.

We spent most of our time at the resort, which was great and a nice relaxing vacation. However, we go to disney once or twice a year so it was ok not to be at the parks all day. If you do not go that often, and want t to be christmas-y, go fromt he week after THanksgiving to the week before CHristmas. Lines are short and decorations are up.

Hope this does not discourage you too much, but I will never go at that time of year again.

Re: Would you visit WDW between Christmas and New Years?

Other than spending Christmas home with FAMILY - DISNEY is the best place in the WORLD to spend Christmas.
THe LIGHTS, the ENTERTAINMENT, the DECORATIONS, and the SNOW!
You just can't beat it!
We try to arrive "before" the crowds! The week before Christmas - Dec 18- 25, the hoop-la is in full swing, even the filming of the parade. Then if you stay thru Dec 25- Jan1 just kick back and enjoy the "hoards" of people and think you've already done that/been there.
Everyone should experience Christmas at DISNEY at least once.
PS. I just added the countdown to my signature - if it doesn't work could someone give me "help" instructions.
Thanks

Been there and done that. While the crowds are a bit much to deal with, it is still Disney, and what more magical place to visit at a very magical time of the year.

Re: Would you visit WDW between Christmas and New Years?

I would love to visit Disney when it's decorated for Christmas, experience the music, etc. I work for the Post Office and we can never get time off in December. The week after Christmas is a possibility, but transportation from Upstate NY would have to be arranged months in advance. There wouldn't be enough time to drive down & have a leisurely stay, drive back, etc. unless I took at least 2 weeks. Probably, it will be easier to wait until I retire (in about 5 years, hopefully), and then plan to come down in early December when the crowds are not so intense. Great topic, though...I'd love to experience that Christmas magic! One of these days...

Re: Would you visit WDW between Christmas and New Years?

From what I hear of the crowds I think they'd be a little too much for us. That's why we're going the week before Christmas week this year. We're hoping to get the magical Christmas feel without the Christmas crowds. Besides, DD being the traditionalist she is, we're not allowed to be away from home on Christmas Day!!! Kind of unusual for a 19 year-old, huh???

Re: Would you visit WDW between Christmas and New Years?

I would consider it! We usually go on the 23rd for my birthday...but I would consider going...only if I had my family there. We were talking about going for 6 days this year..22-27...but I don't know. Crowds don't bother us...cost doesn't really either (if we can afford it)...
