Should Disney purchase Pixar
Pixar Animation Studios has produced some of Disney's biggest hits over the last decade. Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Bug's Life and Monsters, Inc. Without Pixar, the last decade of Disney animation would hav been a major disappointment. Pretty soon, Pixar's agreement with Disney will run out, and they will become free to make movies by themselves without Disney receiving any benefit.
So, the question is, should Disney purchase Pixar?

As an update, the current value of Pixar is estimate at about $2.4 Billion, based upon the market value of Pixar stock. Of course, if Disney were to make an offer, it would have to be much higher.

From a business prospective, yes. Disney should buy Pixar. If they don't, they will regret it- mark my words.
Do I want Disney to buy Pixar? Heck no. Sadly, Disney animation is no longer what it used to be and Pixar is going to be the new kid on the block. If Disney gets a hold of Pixar the wonders of Pixar will be lost as we know it!

No.
Pixar is not the only company that is capable of producing high quality digital animation. And the medium is as timely as your Desktop Computer. If Disney wants to make movies with Pixar that's fine. Buy more time. But I'm not sure the cost of buying Pixar outright would be cheaper than doing a similar partnership with another Computer/Digital film production company. Disney's current animation is doing a great job on television/syndication with newer animation series for kids. Several full length movies have been featured based on them and they have been successful. Disney, should shop around. Don't think they haven't already. :bandit

This will cost Disney no matter what. If the issue is control of the industry, buy. Disney is so diverse that it probably won't buy Pixar which is a shame. The competition might push Disney to create more quality films of their own, but business sense and profitability will dictate the answer.
