Disney Visa parks

Disney will be announcing their new Disney Visa card any day now, and along with rewards that can be earned by using the credit card, there will also be special promotions and perks that are included with the card. So, what perk would you most like to see associated with the card?

As a follow up, I ran across this press release from Visa:

Disney, Bank One And Visa Form Strategic Alliances

Bank One to Offer Disney-Branded Visa Card with Disney Rewards; Disney and Visa to Engage in Global Joint Marketing and Promotional Activities.

BURBANK, CHICAGO and SAN FRANCISCO, June 3, 2002

The Walt Disney Company, Bank One Corporation and Visa today announced two multi-year, strategic alliances that will create the first ever Disney-branded Visa card with Disney rewards, as well as provide Visa with joint marketing opportunities across Disney's various business units. The alliances will begin January 1, 2003, with both the card and cooperative marketing initiatives expected to be launched in the first half of 2003.

The Disney-branded Visa card with Disney rewards, to be issued and managed by Bank One's credit card subsidiary, will have global acceptance like all Visa cards, and enable consumers to earn rewards that may be used toward the purchase of Disney theme park vacations, videos and other Disney-related merchandise.

Visa's strategic alliance with Disney will provide Visa with the ability to create marketing programs with one of the world's leading entertainment brands, benefiting Visa's member financial institutions. Visa and Disney will work together on a global basis to create exclusive Visa card promotions with Disney's theme parks and resorts in the United States and Europe, The Disney Stores, Walt Disney Studios and Disney stage productions. As part of the relationship, Visa will continue to be a major advertiser on Disney's media properties, such as ABC Television Network, ESPN, ABC Family, SoapNet and ABC Radio Networks.

"We're pleased to join forces with Bank One and Visa, two market leaders that share our commitment to quality and customer service," said Robert A. Iger, president and COO of The Walt Disney Company. "These alliances create significant new business opportunities for all three companies."

Added Peter E. Murphy, senior executive vice president and chief strategic officer, "With Bank One, we are creating an exciting new and unique credit card that will offer families and other Disney fans special rewards combined with quality service and competitive terms. Disney will be able to reward our guests and customers for their loyalty and help many others experience the magic of Disney, both key principles of our on-going customer relationship management strategy. And with Visa, we are creating a wealth of global cross-promotional activities across various Disney businesses."

Philip Heasley, chairman of Bank One's credit card division, said, "Creating a Disney-branded Visa card with Disney rewards delivers on Bank One's strategy of associating with the world's best brands. We will help provide Disney families and fans with the opportunity to enjoy Disney vacations and merchandise as their reward for using the card. We believe the Disney-branded Visa credit card, with its world-renowned branding and attractive Disney rewards, will be immensely popular with families and other Disney fans when it is launched next year."

Said Carl Pascarella, president and CEO of Visa U.S.A., "This strategic alliance positions Visa alongside the world's number one entertainment brand and allows Visa to help its member banks and merchants reach a key demographic--families--in new and entertaining ways. The Disney relationship perfectly complements our strong leadership property portfolio, and we expect this alliance to do for us through entertainment what the Olympic Games have done for us through sport: create unrivaled benefits for our membership."

Initially, the card will be offered only in the U.S. and The Walt Disney Company will promote and reward its usage through its domestic businesses. Customers may accrue rewards from all purchases on the card at any of Visa's 24 million acceptance locations worldwide. Monthly statements will provide exclusive Disney promotions for card members, and the latest Disney news and updates on rewards earned.

park pass discounts

I would really like to see good discounts on park passes. We are DVC owners and so passes are the most expensive part of our trip. With a family of seven going on every trip, park passes take a large bite of our vacation budget. I would love a two for one offer, or buy one pass get one more pass half price. I know wishful thinking!!!

I agree with Minnie. You have to have passes to get into the parks, and discounts would be great.:D :)

Disney Dollars would be nice. They could be offered as a freebie based upon the charges you make on your Disney credit card.

Ideally, it would be wonderful if a type of Disney catalog were offered to Disney credit card holders. One would be able to select Disney-related rewards (pins, tickets, merchandise, etc.) according to the number of points earned by using the credit card.

I voted "Other" in the poll 'cause I'm thinking along the same lines as Lopo. I'd like to see "credits," possibly issued in the form of Disney Dollars or something along those lines that we can use any way we see fit in WDW. Or maybe, if the Disney Dollar thing is too cumbersome for them, a list of options ($$ off room, free dinner, free pass) available for a certain amount of $$ spent on the card. I just think flexibility is the key thing.

I voted for a discount on Disney merchandise like the Disney Club, but I wouldn't be to quick to get this card. The incentive for discounts/rewards is to use the card frequently, but at what interest rate? If rates are too high and you don't pay off your charges by the next billing cycle, you might as well kiss any discounts goodbye. I don't like the idea of having yet another credit card to look after. I prefer cash. Many people already are receiving good rates on their other cards and I seriously doubt that Disney could offer anything better than 9.9%, which many people are doing beter, unless they issue gold/platinum/diamond/pixie dust cards to take care of the rates.

Disney visa perks

I have to cast my vote with Minnie and WDWjeff for discounted park passes.

I'm also a DVC member and plan to bring children and grandchildren as often as possible. Discounted park passes would really help with a major expense.

I voted for merchandise discounts. That way the card would have a perk all year round instead of just when we go on a trip. That being said though I have no intention of getting this card.

. PiratesFan, I've got that one figured out already. I'll only use it in situations where I would have otherwise used my debit card. Then, I'll pay it off every month-voila, no interest! Bring on the card. I want it bad!!!:D :)

PiratesFan, generally incentive cards don't have the best interest rates. That's why I use them like I would use cash. I keep track of my spending (I use Quicken, but you can even take the amount out of your checkbook balance & then you'll have the money to write the check at the end of the month with no interest charges) and just write one check at the end of the month. That way I don't pay any interest, but I get all the freebies. Just a thought.

I also voted "other". Why couldn't this card be used as a cutting edge type card--going where no perks have gone before? For instance, offering a "Disney Visa" only annual pass-for both WDW AND Disneyland? They could charge a little more, but it would be better than buying a pass for each park.:)
Or how about a cardholder section of the cruise lines? Certain nicer rooms for cardholders only?

That way it could be like a club also.

I do think it should offer the discounts at the disney store too though.:D
