Re: Death Match: Fort Wilderness vs. Pop Century

Our trip to Ft Wilderness (cabin) may have been the BEST family trip we every took. Enough said.

I have been to both also, and it is Fort Wilderness for us also. (and it doesn't hurt that we will be at FW in a month :) *I am not biased* lol)

Re: Death Match: Fort Wilderness vs. Pop Century

I've only stayed at POP, but I did go visit Cavey (torture!), at FW, and it was REALLY nice.

If I didn't have to stay in a camper with 3 children to stay there (I don't have a camper, anyway!), then I'd choose FW, because it is SOOO nice....

but, I don't have a camper, and I don't want to sleep in a tent....

SO... :c)

I pick POP! Pop was SO MUCH FUN for my kids!!!!!

Re: Death Match: Fort Wilderness vs. Pop Century

Pop Century was the first disney resort my family stayed at last yr in May. We took a trip in Sept. and stayed at the CB. We're going back to disney this Sept. and we all decided to stay at Pop Century again. We really enjoyed it because of the large icons and oversized pools! The food court was awesome too!

Re: Death Match: Fort Wilderness vs. Pop Century

I've always had a yen to try the Cabins at Ft. Wilderness, although you could never say I'm an outdoorsy kinda gal. But, anyway, I refuse to take part in these death matches anymore, cause I'm always on the losing side. Honest - this is the last one I'll participate in - until the next one comes along.

Re: Death Match: Fort Wilderness vs. Pop Century

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!

Such as more room. Did you know at the Fort Wilderness Cabins you have a separate bedroom from the Livingroom/Kitchen? Its true and the couch folds out into a comfy queen sized bed! Two queens and a set of two bunk beads. (easily sleeps 6) That means two bed rooms with a shutable, lockable door in between! If you have a snore-er ZZZzzz, or a Napping child amogst other people that wall is a life saver! And for those who need intamacy but have kids with ya....I rest my case. And besides do you really want two rooms for your family of 5 or 6? Lets get together, yeah yeah yeah...

Cabins have full kitchens. On a budget? eat at the cabin! You could probably save 100 bucks a day with a big family, easy. They get daily maid service, and you have control over the temperature, and there is absolutely NO NOISE from the other Rooms! Why? Because they are free standing and there are NO NOISE periods observed.

Also remember that at Fort Wilderness your CAR is parked 5 feet away from your door!!! So bring the kitchen sink! Bring a whole cooler of snacks, booze, medical needs...Need to see other Orlando Attractions? Booya! No problem! Drive there! Wake up walk out the door there is your car! Don't like the bus? I think you see where this is going for you Drivers.

Do you know the tri circle D ranch, petting zoo, poney rides, hey rides, Camp Fire Sing-a-long character nights and Marshmellow and movies under the stars nights are all at Fort Wilderness? Did you know most were free? Don't forget about Hoop De Doo Revue, Fishing, boating, canoeing, nature trails, bike paths, horse trails. They have heated pools too. Golf cart rentals, bike rentals, Horse rentals! AND remember the electric water parade can be seen at the dock or the beach. My Favorite is to wait for the parade to start then take the boat from Contemporary to Ft Wilderness, there is a chance you could watch the show from the boat!

Boat rides go directly to Magic Kingdom, Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary. Big deal? Consider this, Get to the Contemporary to eat at chef Mickey's! OR take the Monorail to the other Monorail Delux Resorts to eat and shop at nausium! Or take the MK Monorail Loop to the TTC to get to Epcot! Much better than the bus! Of course the meals there at the Trail's end are considered the best Value at DW and there is some misc night time activities that occur too!

And not that it counts now, but they used to have a Rail Road and its own water park a while back. Now seriously, for the money of two rooms for one cabin how does POP anything really compare? Clearly Ft Wilderness Wins.

This was a tough one but we went with Pop Century even though we haven't stayed at either one yet.

I like both, but with 4 kids, the cabins at Fort Wilderness were terrific. Alot to do, plus a room with a kitchen. It worked great for our most recent stay.

Re: Death Match: Fort Wilderness vs. Pop Century

I wouldn't mind camping at Fort Wilderness. I love to camp and the price is great. I just wouldn't want to camp in the heat. Last July we stayed in a cabin for a week and it was great. Lots of you room and a lot of fun. Transportation wasn't great, but it isn't so great at the value resorts either.

Re: Death Match: Fort Wilderness vs. Pop Century

I camped at Fort Wilderness in a camp spot with full hookups where most folks park thier $100K RV's. Our accomodations in the middle of the dog days of August was a circa 1966 Army Surplus 100% cotton canvas Command tent.

It is quite huge and is quite the spectacle to set up. We often draw out the retirees to watch the construction.

So, with a Clothes Dryer vent and a roll of duct tape I rigged a cool air pipe from a free standing window air conditioner (plugged into the Disney power supply on site) and let that puppy blow. Now it did make the tent look a bit puffy but you would wake up in the mornings covered in frost. My advice to those who wish not to freeze during a Florida Summer day in August...Get the smallest window unit you can find. Mine could cool a 1200 sq ft house.
