How long will it be until Disney builds another nightly fee resort at WDW?

At Walt Disney World, the last nightly fee resort that was opened was Animal Kingdom Lodge, which opened on April 16, 2001. Pop Century was slated to open around the end of 2001, but has yet to open, and no new resorts are on the horizon. So, how long do you think it will be until WDW opens a new resort?

I voted for longer BUT of course this all hinges on the attendance and economy. I would love to see them open up another moderate or even deluxe with a fairtale/caslte theme.

I voted 2006. I have been hearing vague rumors that have some basis in reality. Anyway I think the next Resort may be an Ultimate Deluxe "so to speak" located either on the Adventureland side between the Monorail station and Grand Floridian, or on the Upper side of bay lake (passing both Contemporary and the Tomorrowland side of the lake). The resort may have an Asian theme to it.

These are of course rumors, and the Bay Lake spot has appeared on Maps in the past, but they are just speculation and hearsay. Plus, the economy ultimately drives the need for more rooms. However, this resort would have the least rooms of all the resorts and the price per room would be the highest, so it is possible if things ever return to normal. But who really knows. :laugh Of course maps have shown resorts between Poly and Contemporary before too, but I hear the land is just too unstable there.

I think it will be awhile given the current ecomy & things like that don't get back to normal overnight. I think they'll be smart about it & wait to even plan anything until economy, travel fears etc normalize & stay there for awhile. They're already feeling the pain from the current situations.

Downtown Resort ?

When we were there in December there was a lot of ,what appeared to be , building work going on on the bank of the lake opposite Downtown Disney.

Does anyone know what this is ? Is it just road development or the site for a new Resort perhaps ?

Thanks,

Rob.

That's Propably the Sarasota Springs Resort. It should be completed soon, and I think it is for DVC members. It replaced the old Disney Institute I think.

Is DVC membership a good thing to have ?.
We briefly chatted with their Rep at the Wilderness Lodge but felt a little pressured because of time etc. They don't have a website to view options so it seems to be a " sign up quick deal " which makes me a bit sceptical. " A fool and his money... " as they say.

We try to visit WDW every 2 to 3 years or so but , as yet, have never stayed at an on site Resort but rather at one of the Hotels in Plaza Blvd next door to Downtown where it's just a little cheaper without losing too much of the Disney magic.
So it would be nice to stay at one of those excellent Resorts like the Grand Flo ................so if anyone out there is a DVC member and can post some info on this board I'd be really grateful.

Rob.

p.s This Disney Central site is so good...so a big thanks to those concerned.

There have been several discussions here at DC about this topic. Just go to the DVC Corner & there are several threads there that talk all about becoming a DVC member. Yep, there are several of us & I think the general consensus is it's the best move we ever made. If you have any more questions after you check out those threads, just let us know.

how's about a REAL Hollywood Tower Hotel?

On our most recent WDW vacation (this past Christmas/New Year week), my son and I both had the same thought as we were riridng the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror for the about the 15th time:
Disney should construct a Hollywood Tower Hotel Resort! It could be done in the old-time theme from Hollywood's golden era, complete with bellhops, old-time clothing, music, props, etc. I think it would be extremely popular. What do you think?
